His 'Damages' character, Tommy Shayes, may have gotten whacked earlier this year, but Tate Donovan's career is alive and kicking.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the veteran actor, who's had a hand in several seminal TV series, including 'The O.C.' (as problem-plagued pop, Jimmy Copper) and 'Friends' (as real-life ex Jennifer Aniston's crush, Josh-u-a), has been tapped to star in an ABC pilot called 'No Ordinary Family.'His 'Damages' character, Tommy Shayes, may have gotten whacked earlier this year, but Tate Donovan's career is alive and kicking.

The drama, from Greg Berlanti ('Brothers & Sisters'), examines the comings and goings of your typical, every day, run o' the mill American family that just so happens to have super powers. Donovan's character is said to be a "mysterious pilot." (So does this mean he can fly?)

'Shield' star Michael Chiklis, who knows a thing or two about being a superhero from his days as "The Thing" in the 'Fantastic Four' series, is set to star as the artist-turned-cop patriarch of the powerful brood. And 'Dexter's' Julie Benz, who's currently romping it up on 'Desperate Housewives,' will play his "gifted scientist" wife.
