This may be it for Paula Abdul. Or not.

After being mentioned for such new gigs as ABC's revival of 'Star Search' and Fox's 'The X-Factor,' the former 'American Idol' judge is now in talks with NBC to join a new dance series with Kenny Ortega, the director/choreographer behind the 'High School Musical' series and the Michael Jackson documentary 'This is It.'

The show's premise, according to the Wrap: Teams of contestants will stage huge, highly choreographed dance numbers, possibly in public spaces. (Check your local mall.) While the Ortega-Abdul show will involve ambitiously large dance performances in public areas, it won't be a flash mob show, a person familiar with the concept told the Wrap. "This is way beyond that," the source said. "This is enormous dance performance, far beyond what you'd expect to be able to do on television."

Abdul's participation is far from a done deal, at this point, as nothing has been signed yet. It may fall apart like her other recently rumored post-'Idol' slots, such as 'Star Search,' which she ultimately passed on. While Simon Cowell has been vocal in wanting Abdul for his new Fox talent competition, 'The X-Factor,' nothing has been made official so far.

Abdul is best known for her eight seasons on 'Idol,' but was previously more highly regarded as a dancer and choreographer (and former LA Laker girl) than for her music career.
