Producer Tweets About Big Changes for 'So You Think You Can Dance'

Producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted today about the "shocking but GREAT" changes to season 7 of 'So You Think You Can Dance.' First major shake-up: Partners will change every week.

That's bad news for viewers who fell in love with pairings such as last season's Jakob Karr and Ashleigh Di Lello, but good news for younger dancers like Mollee Gray and Nathan Trasoras, who both matured considerably when split up and partnered with more experienced partners.Producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted today about the "shocking but GREAT" changes to season 7 of 'So You Think You Can Dance.' EXCLUSIVE: AOL TV Breaks 'So You Think You Can Dance' Tweets to Adam Shankman

The other major change: Only one dancer (instead of two) will leave the competition each week, which would seem to imply we'll be in for a longer season. Lythgoe promised "many more changes to come by the end of this week." Since his tweets keep mentioning Adam Shankman, it seems likely Shankman will be back for another go-round as judge when the show returns May 27.

Lythgoe first began tweeting about the rule reversals on March 14: "Shocking changes to SYTYCD this Season. Shocking but GREAT. I hope I will be able to reveal them soon."

What other changes could the Fox reality series make? Will contestants be able to select their own dance styles, instead of picking, say, the doomed Foxtrot from a hat? Will we see same-sex pairings? Could Paula Abdul be taking over Mary Murphy's "hot tamale" seat? Keep watching those tweets!

UPDATE 03/26: Today, Lythgoe tweeted, "This Season will not have a top 20. The peices are falling into place. More tomorrow."
