Don Johnson in Talks for Southern Comedy Pilot at ABC

It's starting to look a lot like the '80s in TV pilot season land. On the heels of Tom Selleck's role in a CBS cop drama pilot, 'Miami Vice' star Don Johnson is in negotiations to star in 'Southern Discomfort,' a comedy pilot at ABC.

In the series, which sounds like a potentially great fit with ABC's Wednesday night comedy line-up of 'The Middle,' 'Modern Family' and 'Cougar Town,' Johnson would play a hard-nosed, conservative Texan whose adult children move back into the family home. Steve Talley, best known for roles in 'American Pie' and 'Van Wilder' sequels and a recent guest appearance on 'Castle,' will play the Johnson character's oldest son, who gave up a baseball scholarship to become a writer.

'Discomfort' would mark Johnson's first full-time return to primetime since the flopped 2005-06 WB courtroom drama 'Just Legal.' He also starred in CBS' 'Nash Bridges,' and was nominated for an Emmy for his role as boat-dwelling, alligator-owning, pastel suit-wearing cop Sonny Crockett on the seminal '80s drama 'Miami Vice.'

Most recently, Johnson played Kristen Bell's father in the romantic comedy 'When in Rome,' and he has roles in the upcoming Adam Sandler-produced comedy 'Born to Be a Star,' as well as the Robert Rodriguez thriller 'Machete,' in which he's part of an eclectic cast that also includes Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Danny Trejo, Jeff Fahey, Steven Seagal and Rose McGowan.
