No Love for Abe Vigoda?
Everyone loves Betty White, and with good reason. She's always had a sense of humor about herself, and been willing to play off her supposedly more conservative, dignified character. So it's no surprise that there was a groundswell of support for her after her Super Bowl commercial, where she gets pounded into the mud during a pick-up football game. White was the focus of a spontaneous effort on the part of fans to get the powers that be at 'Saturday Night Live' to ask her to host, which was successful (she's scheduled to host May 8).
But there was another classic character actor in that Snickers commercial, and he took just as big a hit. Abe Vigoda has been acting since the late forties, appearing in everything from 'The Godfather' to 'Barney Miller,' and frequently joining Conan O'Brien for desk pieces.
Where is the love for Abe Vigoda? There are two Facebook pages for him, here and here, and they have less than 100 fans total. There's another page, here, pleading for White and Vigoda to both host 'SNL.'
This is a worthwhile cause. Let Betty White serve as an example, that if we show our support, we can make this happen. We can get Abe on 'SNL.' Join the pages listed, or create your own. Abe, we're here for you, and maybe, just maybe, we can get you on 'SNL' for your 90th birthday next year.
