Watch the 'MacGruber' Restricted Trailer

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 2nd 2010 3:00PM
Will Forte is MacGruberThe 'MacGruber' movie may be nearly two months away from hitting the big screen -- it arrives in theaters May 21 -- but that hasn't prevented a full-out marketing blitz. There's a new NSFW trailer of the 'SNL' adaption, which you can watch after the jump.

We get to see MacGruber (Will Forte) putting together his team to fight the so-called world's most dangerous man (Val Kilmer), along with Kristen Wiig as a master of disguise.

If the trailer is any indication, 'MacGruber' is going to be a slapstick festival of double-entendres (if you're looking for subtle, move on). Probably a good excuse to turn your head off for an hour and a half and sit in an air-conditioned room on a hot spring day.

If it has a secret weapon, it will be Kilmer, who has fine comic timing (remember 'Top Secret?' 'Real Genius?' Even 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang?'). Hopefully, he'll get to let loose somewhere in the script. Oh, and we'll let you discover his character's name in the trailer. It's "restricted" for a reason.

But the trailer is only the tip of the 'MacGruber' iceberg. There is also an iPhone app (which includes a "bomb defuser" and a "mullet generator"), a Facebook page, a Twitter page, and the official movie page, in addition to the NBC page with videos of the original 'SNL' sketches. Hopefully you won't be sick of 'MacGruber' before it even gets here.

Here's the restricted trailer:

I really, really want this movie to be good because I love the skits, and I want MacGyver to remain culturally relevant in time for the movies (which better star RDA or I don't care!). I also hope that Richard Dean Anderson has a cameo that they're keeping well under wraps, but who knows about that one.

Trailer looks good!

I don't think anyone except movie critics have anything to worry about...

Okay...

So, this is a feature length movie of a late night parody of a cheesy 80's show? Well good luck with that - maybe I'll watch this movie a few years from now on TBS some Sunday afternoon while I clean the house...

Clearly not this movie's targeted demographic.

The movie is more an ode to 80s/90s action movies than anything. And the character wasn't so much a parody of MacGyver as it used the name and look as a basis for a really stupid but cocky action character.

So looking forward to seeing this in a month and a half!
