'Bones' 100th Episode: How Bones and Booth Met

by Denise Warner, posted Apr 7th 2010 4:30PM
BonesAudiences have spent five years watching Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) in action on Fox's 'Bones,' but they don't know how the duo became so dynamic. That will change on April 8 when 'Bones' (Thurs., 8PM ET on Fox) celebrates 100 episodes.

Series star Boreanaz directed 'The Parts in the Sum of the Whole,' which recounts Booth and Brennan's first case together. "David did a great job," said executive producer Stephen Nathan in an interview with AOL TV.

'Bones' is known for one of the most talked about "will they or won't they?" relationships, and Fox is teasing that the duo's walk down memory lane has a profound effect on them -- and could change their feelings for each other forever.

Not only will the relationship between Booth and Brennan be examined, but audiences will also get a glimpse at how the relationships between the other Jeffersonian team members began.

"[The 100th episode] is sort of the prequel so that we see how the series began, how [Booth and Brennan's] relationship began, why their relationship is the way it is and perhaps seeing what the future of this relationship might be, even if [they] don't acknowledge it themselves," Nathan explained.

Don't worry, your favorite Jeffersonian squints won't be left in the dust. "We've been able to make the supporting characters, the other parts of the show, as rich as Booth and Brennan," the producer assured us.

And yes, there will be angst-filled Booth and Bones moments, too. "It's very loaded for them emotionally and very loaded for the audience emotionally."

As far as reaching 100 episodes, Nathan was excited, but added it was almost unexpected. "When you do the show, you're just at work trying to make sure you just finish your job," he said. "You don't really think of think of the future. You think of trying to make each episode as good as it possibly can be. The more you're on ... it dawns on you slowly that [the series] has a long and healthy life in front of it."

How did they celebrate this milestone episode? A party, of course. "I don't think I realized the full extent of the meaning of the 100th episode until we had our party when we finished shooting," Nathan revealed. "Then you realize, 'Oh my god, this was quite an accomplishment. I've never been on a show that reached 100 episodes before."

The rest of the season follows the unlikely pairing of the FBI agent and anthropologist as they "reevaluate their relationship and their partnership," Nathan teased.

"We'll look at the other characters in a new way as well. There will be an event that will alter two of [their lives] in a permanent way. Hopefully, that will also reflect on Booth and Brennan's relationship."

Does Nathan, as a fan of the show and not a producer, want Seeley and Temperance together? "Oh yeah, absolutely. But I would be angry if they got them together."

No matter what happens, Nathan promised the audience will enjoy the 100th. "It's really a terrific episode."
