Oprah Unveils New OWN Lineup Featuring Shania Twain

by Scott Harris, posted Apr 8th 2010 1:00PM
Hot on the heels of today's news that Oprah Winfrey would be following up 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' with a new prime time series titled 'Oprah's Next Chapter' comes word of an entire new lineup of shows from the media powerhouse. And headlining the list? None other than country sensation Shania Twain.

According to a press release issued by OWN (The Oprah Winfrey Network), the network, which is scheduled to begin airing programming on Jan. 1, has lined up five new shows, including 'Why Not? With Shania Twain,' which will follow the country star's comeback attempt reality-show style.

That attempt is also apparently getting some more help from 'American Idol,' as TV Guide is reporting that the singer, who appeared as a guest judge during auditions earlier this season, will be returning to America's most popular TV show to mentor contestants in an upcoming episode.Hot on the heels of today's news that Oprah Winfrey would be following up 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' with a new prime time series titled 'Oprah's Next Chapter' comes word of an entire new lineup of shows from the media powerhouse. That attempt is also apparently getting some more help from 'American Idol,' as TV Guide is reporting that the singer, who appeared as a guest judge during auditions earlier this season, will be returning to America's most popular TV show to mentor contestants in an upcoming episode.

Twain and Oprah aren't the only stars having a moment for OWN, though. Besides 'Why Not? With Shania Twain' and 'Oprah's Next Chapter,' viewers tuning in to the network next year will be also able to watch the new series 'Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind,' 'Your Own Show: Oprah's Search For the Next TV Star' and 'Gayle King Live!'.

"My vision for OWN is to create a network that inspires our viewers and makes them want to be who they are on their best day," Oprah said in the press release, a goal echoed by Christina Norman, the COO of OWN. "We want to provide our audience with the tools to awaken, become more alive, and connect to what really matters to them in a fun, engaging, and entertaining way," Norman said.

So what are these new shows about? 'Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind' will take a weekly look into the creative process of such artists as James Cameron, Lady Gaga and Tom Ford, while pal Gayle King will bring her radio hit 'Gayle King Live!' to the small screen.'Your Own Show: Oprah's Search For the Next TV Star,' meanwhile, is pretty self-explanatory, as the talk show kingmaker will look for someone to follow in her footsteps, a tall order indeed.

The five new programs join 10 previously announced series, including 'Behind the Scenes: The Oprah Show Final Season,' 'Breaking Down the Bars,' 'Enough Already,' 'In the Bedroom With Dr. Laura Berman,' 'Inside With Lisa Ling,' 'Kidnapped By the Kids,' 'The Miracle Detectives,' 'Oprah Presents: Master Class,' 'The Swell Life' and "Searching.'

OWN is expected to be available in 80 million homes on launch.
