Nelson recently paddled in the ocean from Catalina to Dana Point in California -- a nine hour journey that had only previously been done by three others. But during her trip, Nelson was joined by a whale, who stayed with her for nearly two hours!
"I felt like I was on a giant dog walk with a whale," said Nelson. "He wanted, like, all my attention... he kept just rolling over." So, a little known fact is that 30-foot whales really like hanging out with people and swimming with them.
Another little known fact that came up during the interview: DeGeneres apparently knows how to talk to whales. "I speak 'whale,'" said the host. But she refused to do it in front of the audience. "It's hard on your throat; I can't do it right now," she said. Aw! We wanted to see DeGeneres do some whale-talk!
