What to Watch: April 12 - 18

by Stephanie Earp, posted Apr 12th 2010 3:23AM

Glee
- Tuesday April 13, 9:25 pm, Global/Fox

It's back! The all-singing all-dancing insanity that 'Idol' used to justify keeping Michael Lynche on the show is back for sweeps and everyone is very excited (except me, because I am the one person in the universe who doesn't see the appeal). Will is finally single, but instead of jumping Emma's bones like he's been waiting his whole life to do it, he takes some time to think about his new situation. And just when Rachel and Finn seemed to be getting started on something real, she gets sidetracked by a fellow called Jesse St. James. Oh honey, no! Any variation on Jesse James is bad news. Trust.

Also This Week:

Californication - Tuesday April 13, 10 pm, Showcase

Usually, feminists and the extreme religious right don't have a lot in common, but this Showtime series starring David Duchovny is one of them. The devout don't like the constant sex with hookers, sluts and teenagers and we feminists don't like the way those hookers, sluts and teenagers are written. I seriously hate the show, but hate is strong word. If it wasn't so well-acted and produced, I wouldn't bother. Showcase starts the series from the beginning with the pilot episode and continuing through the first season - it was recently renewed for a fourth.

Ugly Betty - Wednesday April 14, 10 pm, Citytv/ABC

While 'Glee' says hello, Betty says good-bye this week, in the series finale of this quirky wacky show that for one season was all the rage. It was the show that proved Salma Hayek was more than just a hot bod, the show that proved that the leading actress could be 'ugly' and still win, and the show that proved that Vanessa Williams can out-Heather Ms. Locklear. In this final episode, Betty struggles to tell Daniel something important about her future.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl - Wednesday April 14, 10 pm, Showcase

Season 2 of this British hit starts tonight. For newbies, it stars Billie Piper ('Doctor Who') as Belle, a high-end call girl working in London. Her family and most of her friends call her Hannah and have no idea what she does for a living. This season, Belle meets a doctor in a hotel bar (where doctors are known to congregate) and wonders if she can have sex for money while she falling in love. Aw, isn't that sweet?
