'Nurse Jackie' - 'Apple Bong' Recap

(S02E04) There's a lot about 'Nurse Jackie' that reminds me of a ticking bomb. Eddie at the pharmacy. Gloria at the hospital. Cooper and Sam getting under Jackie's skin. She's like a tightly wound clock that could pop a spring at any point. Without any major drugs this episode, she seemed more tightly wound than ever. For more about Jackie and the pressure cooker she calls her life, read on.
Eddie must have a death wish. After Jackie confronted him at his pharmacy, warning him to back off of her private, family life, he still pushed the situation by luring Kevin to a Mets game. He screwed up date night, which was really just a way of messing with Jackie. What on earth does Eddie hope to accomplish? Jackie told him, "This is the behavior of a fucking psychopath," and then showed him what pent-up anger looks like.
It's weird that Jackie doesn't believe Eddie is dangerous, because she knows that he did try to commit suicide. Oh, sure, he claimed that he knew how much to take to make it look like suicide, but I think he could be a psychopath after all. And if Kevin ever finds out the truth about Eddie and Jackie's affair, someone is going to get massacred.
Without the love and concern Jackie has for her patients, she might be a character without a soul and, therefore, without our affection. But she does care and she does things that you hope real medical professionals are doing to help the ill. When faced with Martin, the cancer patient, who was suffering from the effects of chemotherapy and could find no relief, Jackie recommended pot.
Coop turned the argument into a power thing because he really can't take her defying him. But for Jackie, it was a more practical thing. Martin needed relief and she provided it, with the help of an apple and Lenny's stash. Going that extra mile, though, baking the brownies and cleaning out Martin's refrigerator, that was saintly. Perhaps that's what Jackie is doing at All Saints after all.
Of course, in the background was the Mets game. Jackie was fuming that Eddie had not only invaded her life, but he was seducing her husband -- metaphorically. She doesn't need the competition. Something tells me that Eddie is due for a slap down.
Other points of interest
-- Sam and Eleanor got it on in the chapel. "I have a girlfriend," he told her. "So do I," she answered.
-- It was good to see Gloria follow up with Jackie about getting Grace to see Dr. Bowen. She cares a lot more than she lets on.
-- Zoe took action like Jackie, too, saving the kid's life by intubating him without waiting for a doctor. "I just made sure someone didn't die." Was Jackie really going to admonish her for doing what Jackie would have done? I doubt it.
-- Favorite line of the show -- Zoe to Sam: "Sam, I don't do chatty." How hilarious! Zoe's become Jackie!
