Sue Sylvester Does 'Vogue' on 'Glee' - A Week Early

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 13th 2010 6:02PM
Glee, Jane Lynch, Madonna, VogueIs Madonna still a hot property? Judging by all the furor surrounding the special Madonna episode of 'Glee' airing April 20, 'The Power of Madonna,' it seems so. Frankly, though, the hubbub would be way more exciting if Madonna was actually going to be ON the show, don't you think?

At any rate, there's still plenty to get excited about; in his preview of 'Glee's' return, Joel mentioned that the episode would include Sue Sylvester's video homage to 'Vogue.' Sue Sylvester striking a pose? I'm all over that.

And we don't have to wait til next week for that bright spot. It'll happen tonight during the spring premiere of 'Glee,' airing at a special time, 9:28PM - 10:30PM ET/PT. That's after 'American Idol' for anyone paying attention.

Here's the scoop: It's a three-minute video sponsored by Chevy (gotta get that sponsor in there), and will feature Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer), and Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley). In the vein of Weird Al, it'll be a shot-by-shot re-creation of the groundbreaking music video originally done in 1990. Just the thought of Sue, Kurt and Amber 'vogueing' is making me verklempt. Even if you're not a Madonna fan, it's sure to be loads of fun.

Still, has the hype machine gotten out of control? Do we need all this press to get excited about 'Glee?' Couldn't we have waited another week for the 'Vogue' video? Why air it a week early? Joel thinks the show is headed for an epic fail, and while I don't agree with that, I do think that network might be going a tad overboard with their promotion.

I still love 'Glee,' because there's nothing else like it on TV. What I DON'T like about it are the more dramatic storylines. There's plenty of drama elsewhere on the tube, and what made 'Glee' fresh and fun in the beginning was the upbeat -- yes, gleeful -- nature of the show. People need something positive to get excited about. Don't fail me, 'Glee.' Don't go all 'Friday Night Lights' on me.

And to remind us of the awesomeness of the original 'Vogue,' here's the video below. Can't you just picture Sue, Kurt and Mercedes in there?!

I think what causes shows start at out doing great, and can keep doing great for many seasons. The problem is sites like this that predict the show will fail. "T.V. Guide" does that too. So people figure the show won't be on much longer and they quit watching so they won't get attached and then face feeling bad when the show is gone.

So maybe the media could stop calling out the death notices on perfectly healthy shows. And it is not too soon to see a clip of next week's show tonight. It's called "Marketing".

I really like Glee but the show is being over promoted to the point that it's actually annoying. I'll have to watch it later this week because there is no way I'm missing Lost tonight. The Vogue number can definitely wait, sorry Sue, Love ya, but my first love is Lost!!
