'Onion Sports Network' Picked Up by Comedy Central

The OnionTired of the same old sports coverage? (Personally, we're looking forward to the end of the Tiger Woods 24/7 news cycle.) Longing for someone to satirize sports in a clever, tongue-in-cheek way?

Well, you're in luck: Comedy Central has given a series order to its 'Onion Sports Network' pilot, officially bringing the popular satiric newspaper and Web site to the network, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Ten episodes have been ordered of the scripted series, which will debut early next year; and anything in sports is fair game, from teams, to players, to fans, to products to, of course, other media coverage.The OnionTired of the same old sports coverage? Well, you're in luck: Comedy Central has given a series order to its 'Onion Sports Network' pilot, officially bringing the popular satiric newspaper and Web site to the network, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Ten episodes have been ordered of the scripted series, which will debut early next year; and anything in sports is fair game, from teams, to players, to fans, to products to, of course, other media coverage.

"The Onion has such credibility in the comedy world, we feel fortunate to partner with them," said Kent Alterman, head of original programming for the cable network. "They will skewer the sports world, and the media coverage of sports, with the same sharpness we've seen applied to the world of politics and popular culture."

Steve Hannah, CEO of the Onion, summed up the new series with understated modesty: "The Onion Sports Network teaming up with Comedy Central? If I were ESPN, I'd consider a whole new line of work."
