Kate Collins Returns to 'All My Children'

kate_collins_all_my_children_abcThere's some big news coming to us from the world of soap. One of the best actresses in the business, Kate Collins, is returning to 'All My Children' as Janet Dillon. You remember Janet, right? Or perhaps you recall her more popular name, Janet from Another Planet. That the nickname the character earned for her bizarre behavior and outrageous antics. She did once throw her sister Natalie down a well, leave her there to die and then threaten to shoot Hayley in the face.

Recently, the character has been played by Robin Mattson -- who is also a wonderful actress -- but Collins return is special because she's the originator of the role. She was last on 'All My Children' in 2007. Collins will be back on the show effective April 30, but the character has already been making her presence known.

That shadowy figure who's been obsessed with Amanda's new modeling career is Janet. Amanda, by the by, is Janet's daughter, so it stands to reason that she'd be interested. The problem with Janet is that it won't be just an 'interest.' It's going to be so much more than that.

According to Michael Logan in TV Guide, Janet used her time in the insane asylum to become computer savvy. That's how she's been keeping up with Amanda's career advancement at Fusion. Collins told Logan, "Janet, in her insanity, thinks she can manage Amanda's career better than anyone else and wants to take her and the grandbaby off to Europe. She's even made fake passports.'

But all that doesn't start till April 30, and for fans of 'AMC,' there's important reasons to tune in this week. Tomorrow, on April 20, 'All My Children' will honor the late actor James Mitchell with a memorial service for his character, Palmer Cortlandt. Former stars, Gillian Spencer and Taylor Miller, return as Daisy and Nina, respectively, Palmer's great romance and his beloved daughter.

Even more than the tribute from others, the show managed to cull footage of Palmer from past episodes as well as James Mitchell's last clips that were created for 'AMC's' 40th anniversary celebration episode. It should make for a memorable memorial episode, one you don't want to miss.

Is Jennifer Morrison of "Once Upon a Time" related to Kate Collins of "All My Children?" They certainly resemble one another!
