David Hasselhoff Returning to 'The Young and the Restless'
It looks like soap opera fans are about to get another blast from the past.On the heels of Juliane Moore's cameo as Frannie Hughes on 'As the World Turns' and news that Charles Shaughnessy will be reprising his character, Shane Donovan, on 'Days of Our Lives,' EW.com is reporting that 'Knight Rider' himself, David Hasselhoff, is returning to 'The Young and the Restless' to play Dr. Snapper Foster.
From 1975-1982, David Hasselhoff was the epitome of a soap leading man on 'The Young and the Restless.' Gorgeous, hunky and hot, he wooed the ladies and was brave and committed to saving lives as a Genoa City medical man. More importantly, the character of Snapper was an integral part of the Foster family. The Fosters were the folks from the wrong side of the tracks, hard-working and self-reliant.
Snapper was the older brother of Greg, an attorney who helped those who couldn't afford legal representation, and Jill, a beautician who dreamed of a better life. Jill is still on the show, actress Jess Walton, only now she's Jill Abbott, a woman who has married her way into high society, dabbled in corporate shenanigans at Jabot and Chancellor, and has occasionally been duped into thinking that Katherine (Jeanne Cooper) might have been her mother.
That mother information is especially interesting, because the woman who raised Jill -- and Snapper and Greg -- is returning, too. Actress Julianna McCarthy will play Liz Foster again at the same time as Hasselhoff's highly anticipated return. And just to add a cherry on top of this daytime sundae, Wings Hauser has been drafted to bring Greg back to the canvas, too.
It sounds like a Foster family reunion, huh? There's no official explanation as to why the Fosters would be cropping up at this point in time, but we do know that the actors will be filming their scenes in May in time for a mid-June launch.
Meanwhile, the Ausiello Files theorizes that Hasselhoff may be using this nostalgia trip as part of his upcoming A&E reality series. Which could mean a boost in ratings, should Hasselhoff bring in fans from his former gig on 'America's Got Talent.'
With the strange storytelling on 'Y&R' of late, it would be nice if this Jill-oriented tale -- and it's going to have to involve her -- has some solid footing in reality. Maybe it'll be a health care issue or something serious. Anything but evil twins and caged kidnap victims, please.
