'America's Next Top Model' - 'Big Hair Day' Recap
Sometimes I wonder if Tyra even takes this show seriously anymore. Combined with her using the term "Who the heck?" in the first five minutes, her announcement of the girl's overseas destination, and the amazing shot of Alasia knocking on an elevator door to have it open, Tyra's just editing this show for entertainment. Who seriously knocks on an elevator to get it to open?
You knew the episode was going downhill when the first challenge was a really weak walking challenge at Lucky Chengs. Not even fabulous drag queens could make this section any better. There was no real reason for the girls to be wearing clothes by 'The City' star Whitney Port, nor was there any reason for Pat Cleveland to try teaching the girls to feel the emotions of their clothing. Alas, the girls walked up and down a black carpet and got occasional applause. Anslee walked down and got total silence; someone should tell people that boring is a personality. Krista performed one of the more crowd pleasing moves, the mannequin turn (seen in Cycle 6, Episode 7) to win the contest.
Before the big hair competition, we got Alasia's individual challenge: getting out of a house. It's nice to know that in case of a real fire, Alasia would have spent five minutes trying to pry the elevator door open, knocking on the door hoping that the electricity gods would open it. She eventually took the stairs and the limo was still waiting. Luckily one girl announced to Alasia: "You're an idiot."
The girls were split into two groups for the photo shoot team Derek J (Alasia, Jessica, Alexandria) and Weaven Steven (Angelea, Krista, Reina, Anslee), but the only reason they were split up was so that they could heckle each other.
The judging panel included Whitney Port, but she didn't want to ruffle feathers and just agreed with the other judges. Most of the photos benefited from a really flattering backdrop and some interesting Photoshop work. Some of those girl's legs didn't look like they would connect to their waists correctly. While I didn't have too much trouble with Alasia, Krista and Reina, the other photos all had some flaws. Jessica's arm and leg movement lacked anything really model about it. Anslee's looked amazing if it was just a head shot. Alexandra looked like a drunk about to fall over; she reminded me of the ballerina ostrich from Fantasia. But my biggest gripe was with Angelea. Not only did she look like she was doing the same pose as Ren dancing the disco, she looked heavily confused.
Krista finally got her wish and got the first photo call-out. She was rewarded with a first class seat to New Zealand. She shared the reward with Angelea, who ironically was called second. They were followed by Reina, Jessica, and Alasia. The bottom two were Anslee (strong face, poor body) and Alexandra (decent photos, no drive). Anslee was finally sent home. Her fadeout looked so much stronger because of her strong facial structure.
While I'm happy that Anslee was eliminated, for me it could have been either Alexandra or Anslee and it wouldn't matter. Also, this week both Angelea and Krista didn't come off as badly as they had in previous weeks. What did you think of the elimination? Leave comments below.
