'Early Show' Is (Finally!) Going HD

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 21st 2010 7:34AM
The Early Show 'The Early Show' is finally going HD, according to a new report from Media Bistro. It seems a little odd that it's taken the show so long to switch, especially considering that its morning show rivals, 'Today' and 'Good Morning America,' already broadcast in HD.

Perhaps this is CBS' attempt to boost ratings and skew to a younger audience, which was nudged along a couple of years ago when it re-launched the show with a colorful new widescreen set. According to Media Life, the show averaged a measly 2.52 million viewers during the first three months of 2010, putting it in third place among the network morning news programs.
The actual HD broadcast will begin Monday morning, but for the next few months, the production staff will use the 'Evening News' control room at CBS News headquarters. The new HD control room at 'The Early Show' should be ready by late summer.

Are you glad to hear about 'The Early Show' going HD? Will it make a difference as to whether you watch it or not?

Now if CBS would shoot Amazing Race in HD. It wins the Emmy every year yet it is still one of the few network shows in Standard def.
Come on CBS step up and show the Amazing Race in HD. And yes it is about time the Early show was show in 16x9 HD.

I will appreciate a full screen for sure. Annoying from all networks is that they fill up the lower 1/3 of my screen with ribbons of worthless promotion so that my 52" screen becomes 38" with every segment. By the way, they all want you to know their interviews are "exclusive" -- so how soon will this become redundant? For good measure the new, smart term for every suspect is "person of interest", as though that will fool anybody.
