They say that the grass is always greener on the other side, which may explain why 'Ugly Betty' alum Eric Mabius is following in his character's footsteps and heading across the pond for the (less) sunny climes of Britain.

According to Deadline, Mabius has been tapped to star in a high-profile new drama series for the UK's main broadcasting channel, BBC One, where dramas such as 'Doctor Who,' 'Merlin' and the original 'Life on Mars' found popularity.

The new project is titled 'Outcasts,' a sci-fi series set in 2040 after a biological catastrophe wipes humanity from the face of the Earth, forcing 50,000 survivors to start a new colony on a life-supporting planet in a neighboring solar system. (Think Battlestar Galactica without the Cylons and with much posher accents.)They say that the grass is always greener on the other side, which may explain why 'Ugly Betty' alum Eric Mabius is following in his character's footsteps and heading across the pond for the (less) sunny climes of Britain.

Mabius will play the vice president of the evacuation effort for the show, which begins shooting in South Africa next month.

'Ugly Betty' was a huge hit in Britain for Channel 4, which means audiences will already recognize Mabius when the eight-episode series begins airing. While U.S. audiences are still reeling from the cancellation of 'Betty,' it's nice to see that the cast is already moving on; Mabius' new role follows hot on the heels of pilot gigs for Becki Newton (who has been cast in NBC's 'Love Bites') and Ana Ortiz (ABC's 'True Blue'). We're still keeping our fingers crossed for a Marc and Amanda spin-off, though.

Are you still bitter about 'Betty,' or are you glad to see the cast moving on? Sound off below!
