When we last left 'Sons of Anarchy,' Gemma (Katey Sagal) was on the run after being framed for murder. Now it turns out she'll have daddy issues to contend with as well.

FX Networks announced today that Emmy winner Hal Holbrook has signed on to play Gemma's dad on its critically acclaimed drama. The venerable actor will join the hit cable show -- about an outlaw motorcycle club in a town called Charming -- for a four-episode arc when the series' third season premieres this September.

This 'Anarchy' stint is just another chapter in the long, storied career of this TV and movie vet: The 85-year-old Holbrook has spent over five decades on screen, won four Emmys and was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in 2007's 'Into the Wild.'

He was also married to the late, great Dixie Carter of 'Designing Women,' who died earlier this month at age 70.

Production on the third season of 'Sons of Anarchy,' which also stars Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnam, begins this Friday.
