Thursday-Night Shows Hit With Low Ratings

by Brad Trechak, posted Apr 23rd 2010 3:00PM

SurvivorThis is either a hiccup or a sign of things to come: Ratings for most of the shows that aired last night were down, according to the Live Feed.

The ratings winner was CBS, who aired 'Survivor,' 'CSI' (which tied its all-time series low, with 13.3 million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demo) and 'The Mentalist.'

Fox placed second with 'Bones' and 'Fringe,' which pulled in 8.8 million and 5.9 million viewers, respectively.

Meanwhile, things didn't turn out well on the NBC front: 'Community' hit a series low, with a measly 3.9 million viewers,' while 'The Office' (6.4 million) and a double-feature of '30 Rock' (4.2 million, 5.2 million) hit season lows.

Also hitting a season low: ABC's 'Private Practice,' with just 7.4 million viewers.

Watched Bones it is the only show on network tv that I watch on Thursdays. Then switched to A&E to watch repeats of Criminal Minds. Do not watch any of the "Reality TV" i.e. Survivor, Idol or stuff like that never have. Never watched the CSI's.

I would have watched Community if it hadn't been preempted at nearly the last minute by an NBA game. (I don't watch sports and it didn't show up on our local NBC affiliate's schedule until about 12-18 hours before game time.)

Wound up watching Wednesday's episode of Ugly Americans on the DVR.

Watched Flashforward & Bones (which wasn't a good episode) and then Fringe. DVD-Flashforward, Private Practice, CSI and the Mentalist (totally agree about Jane). Got through PP in about 10 minutes and erased CSI without watching it.

Do not care about any sports things going on. It is a very weird viewing week new episodes being dropped in the schedule without any promotion.

Bones, CSI, The Mentalist - however, really miss Grissom - show is not the same with him and The Mentalist is starting to get on my nerves with Jane's antics!

Bones is one of the best underrated shows on TV!

If any of those programs were any good it wouldn't matter what the competition was. I switched back and forth from the NBA playoffs and CSI. The ep was so disappointing I never went back to CSI.

Bring back Grissom!!!!

Everyone I know was watching either the NBA playoffs, the NHL playoffs, an MLB game, or the NFL draft. Thursday was the worst possible night for the big four networks of the entire year. This should come as no surprise.

Well, not sure what NBC expects after like 3 weeks of repeats. I wasn't sure when new episodes were coming back. Also, it doesn't help that 30 Rock just hasn't been that funny lately.

Wow, I am just amazed by how many TV ratings observers were so focused on the ratigs that they seemed to have forgotten completely that many were watching the NFL Draft last night, and the odd layout of ABC and NBC's schedule last night reflected that. They knew well in advance this would be a low rated night because ESPN was going to get quite a good rating last night, and it would be useless to tick off their sister network/sports partner by going full on with competition.

Next time you write a doom and gloom article like this can you please take a little time to do basic research and realize that event programming will draw eyeballs away and that schedules are planned to test this theory?
