Dan & Jessi Talk Final Season of 'The Hills'

by Chris Jancelewicz, posted Apr 27th 2010 11:39AM

'The Hills' is alive... but not for much longer.

The cultural phenomenon that sparked a generation of non-reality reality shows is launching its sixth and final season starting on April 27, with a spectacular summer series finale planned. Many are rejoicing the demise of the show, practically chomping at the bit to send Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt into the sunset. Others aren't so happy... though we're not sure who you are.

Some of the final episodes include Montag's plastic surgery being revealed to her mom, the cast dealing with substance abuse, and Audrina Patridge dating Ashlee Simpson's reality TV ex, Ryan Cabrera. There has been some teasing in regards to the return of Lauren Conrad, but MTV makes no promises.

We sat down to talk candidly with Dan & Jessi from MTV Canada's 'The After Show' about the end of 'The Hills,' and what the remaining fans have to look forward to in the next few months.

We sat down to talk candidly with Dan & Jessi from MTV Canada's 'The After Show' about the end of 'The Hills,' and what the remaining fans have to look forward to in the next few months.

What do you think this last season will bring?

Dan: I feel like, for this season, the circus has come to town. I think it's going to be an all-out, drama-filled, silicone-enhanced good time.

Jessi: Definitely. New faces, new boyfriends, new drug problems, new drama. Can't really go wrong with that.

How has this series affected pop culture/youth culture?

Jessi: Absolutely. These girls, with no discernable talent, have been on the cover of Rolling Stone, have written New York Times bestsellers, have launched clothing lines and spin-off shows and sex scandals. Whether you like it or not, the cast of 'The Hills' and the series itself has changed the face of television and of celebrity in pop culture... and some of the cast members have just changed their faces.

Dan: Yes, like it or not, 'The Hills' has become one of the most recognizable, most emulated reality shows of all time. And the cast have gone from being a bunch of kids that loved to party and talk about each other behind their backs to full-on international celebrities. Whether that's a good thing is debatable.

Will Spiedi ever go away?

Dan: Is it bad to say I hope so?

Jessi: If you had asked me that a year ago, I would have said not likely, but with the whole 10-plastic-surgeries-in-one-day thing I hope they've turned people off enough to secure themselves a place in D-list heaven.

How is it that people like Audrina and Whitney [Port] managed to use a 'fake' reality show as a springboard for a career?

Jessi: Well, 'fake reality show' is up for debate -- I will tell you that in three years of working behind the scenes with the likes of Audrina and Whitney, the drama you see on the show definitely spills over into reality, more than we ever want it to. So the drama is real... but the ability to spin petty problems into a multi-million dollar empire, however, is still a mystery to me.

Dan: Fame at this point seems to allow you to do whatever you want. You want a clothing line? Sure! You want to put out a record and you can't sing? Let's do it!

In this season, does Justin Bobby make a play for Audrina's heart?

Jessi: I will tell you that he doesn't succeed with winning Kristin's heart... so she is free to sleep with... I mean... share her heart with lots of other dudes this season.

Dan: I don't even know if Justin Bobby is back this season. Guess we'll have to wait to find out.

Is Heidi's face that scary in person?

Dan: I haven't seen her face in person. But I hope so!

Jessi: I actually fear the day we interview Heidi 2.0 in person -- I will undoubtedly be so fixated on her face I will forget why I'm even there.

Will Jessi finally get it on with Brody?

Dan: Yikes. That's a question for my lovely red-headed lady.

Jessi:
And the answer is... absolutely.

What can fans expect from you guys on 'The After Show' this season?

Dan: It's our last season of 'The Hills After Show.' We're going all out. Spare no expense. I'm excited!

J
essi: Yes! we can't wait. It's the final season, we have nothing to lose and we won't hold anything back. Also, we may have gotten multiple plastic surgeries ourselves. Tune in April 27 to see our new faces!

The final season of 'The Hills' airs on April 27 at 10 pm on MTV Canada, followed, as always, by 'The After Show'. Also check out 'The Hills' MTV Canada site for all things 'Hills'-related.
