'America's Next Top Model' - 'Welcome to New Zealand' Recap

(S14E08) The remaining six girls on 'America's Next Top Model' arrive in their foreign destination: New Zealand. My favorite episode of 'ANTM' has to be the go-sees because the show becomes the knock-off 'The Amazing Race' for a few minutes. The same rules apply to having good taxi drivers and never getting out of the taxi to run to your destination.
The episode was filled with a lot of quotable quotes ranging from Nigel calling sheep "Horny Beasts," Krista wondering if the sheep will nibble on her arm or her being called a "teenage Bambi." The real standout was the unnecessary club walk that Angelea attempted to impress the judges with. It reminded me of a drunk Jade from Cycle 6 but without the repeated phrase of "Wonderful, Fabulous."
With Krista and Angelea in first class on the way to New Zealand, they get the advantage when Miss J and Colin Mathura-Jeffree announce go-sees. To add to the fun, rain wreaks havoc on the girls' hair. Jessica gets called out for being too commercial, Raina has a horrible walk, Alexandra has Ugg boots, Angelea's hair looks like a wet dog,and it turns out that Alasia has an acceptable swimwear body because of her curves.
While Alexandra, Jessica, and Angelea make it back to the modeling agency, Krista, Raina, and Alasia are late; Alasia being 45 minutes late. Magically, Angelea has a professional attitude, strong walk, decent portfolio and good time management skills; she books all six designers. I guess New Zealanders can appreciate tranny-chic as much as Tyra has.
The girls make it to their new home decked with photos of last cycle's winner Nicole. I forgot how strong her whole portfolio was until I saw the images around the house. I didn't see the Ninja shot or the multi-cultural shot, but they are probably in the bathroom. Out of nowhere -- with Brenda and Anslee gone --Jessica becomes the hard-working mother. By adding the "doing this for the kids" storyline, you knew she was safe for at least one more episode. The drama continues between the Reina/Jessica and Alasia/Krista/Angelea cliques, but it seems like it will be coming to a close next week.
The photo this week involves sheep, one dress, and Nigel Barker. The math is all in place, but most of the girls struggle either with the sheep or the dress. Several slip and fall off. Jessica uses the word "technological" when she really meant "technical." In all reality, I think the sheep, Prince, did an amazing job. Can someone stop telling the girls that jumping photos are interesting, but shouldn't be the only thing defined as edgy.
At the judging panel, the host of New 'Zealand's Next Top Model' Sara Tetro was the guest judge. I liked the photos this week, but less for the girls, but more for the beautiful landscape, flow of the dress, and the really cool sheep. While Krista had a great photo, I really hoped that Tyra would have picked one of the photos where she was interacting with the sheep. Any of Krista's laying photos would have trumped Alexandra's shots.
What's with Tyra picking yet another up-nose shot of Alexandra? The camel-toed Tyra announces the top photo this week is Krista. She is followed by Alexandra, Raina, and a dejected Angelea. The bottom two are Alasia (Full of potential, no focus) and Jessica (Interesting, but commercial). Andre Leon Talley couldn't save his favorite contestant this week and Alasia was sent home.
Alasia lasted a bit too long for not doing much, but she was amazing television. Her appreciation of "designer" Louis Vuitton, knocking on the door of an elevator, and her fainting in front of Tyra combined with removing her fake wig made her amazing television. I would have been really disappointed in Tyra if Jessica was cut. Even if she was too commercial, she has had some strong photos. How did you find the elimination? Leave your comments below.
