Robert Downey Jr. Speaks Out on His Troubled Past (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 29th 2010 2:00PM
On 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC), 'Iron Man 2' star Robert Downey Jr. spoke out on his troubled past, which included substance abuse and multiple stints in jail. According to Downey, he actually came to appreciate jail and think of it as a safe place. Still, he seems to much prefer life now that he's a mega-star and managing his "position within society."

"I'm not advocating incarceration. I was just saying that it's understandable to me why people get themselves, for one reason or another, in that situation, and it can start feeling like somewhere you can retreat to," Downey said of jail.
