This Year's Time 100 List Includes Several TV People

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 29th 2010 1:30PM
ConanAh, what a difference one year can make.

Last year, Time magazine did a cover story on Jay Leno and his big move to primetime, in which the magazine called him the "future of television."

But on this year's list of the 100 Most Influential People, Leno is nowhere to be found. Who made it instead? Yep, you guessed it: former 'Tonight Show' host Conan O'Brien.

There are eight other TV people on the list too, ranging from talk-show hosts, to a reality show judge to a couple of producers. See who made it after the jump.

There are a few people on the list whose honor comes as no surprise, like Oprah Winfrey, since she's one of the most powerful media people in the universe. And Simon Cowell's name is no surprise either, since he's a driving force behind one of the top shows on TV ('American Idol') and also made news this past year for announcing his departure from the show. The other people on the list include Ricky Gervais, 'Lost' producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, 'How I Met Your Mother' star Neil Patrick Harris, who seems to be everywhere these days, 'Glee's' Lea Michele, and Fox News anchor Glenn Beck.

Each of the entries were written by another celebrity who knows them or knows a lot about them. Conan's was written by new TBS buddy George Lopez, Harris's by Joss Whedon, Oprah's by Phil Donahue, Cowell's by Nick Cannon, Gervais's by Karl Pilkington (of course) and the 'Lost' guys get a nice tribute from Time TV critic James Poniewozik.

I wonder why some other names aren't on the list, though. How about Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? Roger Ailes? Tina Fey? Matthew Weiner?

Tell us: Who do you think should have made Time's list?

NPH is quickly racing towards "National Treasure" status, and deserves every bit of it.
