'Sex and the City's' Michael Patrick King Headed Back to Primetime

He's certainly experienced success on the big screen with the 'Sex and the City' movie (which grossed more than $400 million, worldwide), but 'SATC' series producer Michael Patrick King apparently missed TV land.

Deadline reports that King is about to finalize a multi-year "mega deal" with Warner Bros. Television that will have him creating his own TV production company at WBTV, where he'll help foster a group of writers and develop a slate of new TV series.

King's return to the tube is scheduled for June, when he's finished promoting 'Sex and the City 2,' the May 27 sequel to 2008's first 'SATC' big-screen effort. He's certainly experienced success on the big screen with the 'Sex and the City' movie (which grossed more than $400 million, worldwide), but 'SATC' series producer Michael Patrick King apparently missed TV land.

King's return to the tube is scheduled for June, when he's finished promoting 'Sex and the City 2,' the May 27 sequel to 2008's first 'SATC' big-screen effort.

The 'SATC' writer/director/producer, who was a consulting producer on 'Will & Grace' and wrote for female-driven series like 'Murphy Brown,' 'Cybill' and 'The 5 Mrs. Buchanans' before becoming a co-executive producer on 'SATC,' last worked in TV on Lisa Kudrow's too-short-lived 2005 HBO comedy 'The Comeback.'

A suggestion for one of King's new TV series: An adaptation of 'The Carrie Diaries,' 'SATC' author Candace Bushnell's new prequel novel that focuses on the teenage years of 'SATC's' main diva, Carrie Bradshaw. Imagine the sort of smart teen dramedy that a smart writer/producer like King could concoct.

Meanwhile, King, who won multiple Emmys and Producers Guild of America awards for 'SATC,' will also continue to develop movie projects, with two scripts currently in the writing stage, including a joint romantic comedy project with DreamWorks' honcho Stacey Snider.
