'Dancing with the Stars' - 'Performance #6: Results' Recap

by Michael Pascua, posted May 5th 2010 2:00AM
Karina Smirnoff and Louis Van Amstel dance to Train's 'Drops of Jupiter' on the 'DWTS' week 6 results show(S10E13) Last night's 'Dancing with the Stars' provided several of the celebrities' personal best scores including the first 30 of the season. The group dances forced the scores closer to each other.

The results begin and I'm taken aback to Brooke Burke looking like a poor man's Carmen Electra tonight. We start off immediately with Nicole & Derek and Erin & Maks. While Nicole & Derek are safe, Erin & Maks are in the dreaded bottom two.

Len's recap basically hyped how much he thought the episode went. It was because after Jake's elimination the dead weight is gone. It turns out that Nicole's dress was stuck when she did her low spin and landed on her bum thus causing the giggle moment I complained about last night.

Encore - Team GaGa's Cha-Cha - Pamela suffered a leg injury so Chelsie Hightower substituted. So that's what Pamela was supposed to look like. Chad looked a bit more tense the second time around especially with the fact that he wasn't being scored. Nicole brought everything she had for the encore performance. Without Pamela around the sync looked better except that Nicole was ahead of her timing.

Musical Guest - Train, "Hey Soul Sister" - After it's introduction last season, we get the return of the B-Stage. After hearing the squeaky performance of "Hey Soul Sister" with Aiden & Edyta. I laughed at how the cameras couldn't keep up with Patrick Monahan's dancing. Chelsie and a fully recovered Mark Ballas start the group dance. They are joined by Dmitry & Lacey and Tony & Cheryl. All three solos looked a bit too frantic for the song, especially when the song was used for a quickstep. The group sequence was better and more in tune with the music. The end sequence fit perfectly with the tone of the song.

After the score breakdown where Evan called Anna an "Omega Sheep" the men are up and Even and Anna are safe, but Chad & Cheryl have to wait longer.

Pro Analysis - The pros basically talk about the increased workload, pressure, and hard work. All the interviews are in an odd profile for extra dramatic effect. While I'm not sure how exactly Damian could related about the workload, the other five professionals have been in a finale at least once. After the analysis Niecy & Louis and Pam & Damien are up. Niecy & Louis are safe, but Pamela & Damien have to wait.

Melissa Rycroft Behind the Scenes - Since ABC loves Melissa but realized that Brooke was a better choice, the production forces Melissa to have small odd-jobs for the amusement of the audience. It's cute having Melissa in the background and reading voice-overs, but I have a feeling she would have been horrible live.

Macy's Stars of Dance - Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil, "Viva Elvis" - The performance was colorful and fun even though I kept hearing the song "Footloose" sampled in the background. The standout moment was the classic Cirque lift work; it was great that the guy tossed the girl away and she just slid away. Priscilla Presley didn't look heavily enthused, but it could just be her botox causing her to look unemotional.

Musical Guest - Train, "Drops of Jupiter" - After a clothing change, Patrick Monahan continues to wobble around the stage. How does he manage to do that to a slow tempo song? Louis performs with Karina and it's nice seeing Karina back in fine form. One would assume with the fallout between Karina and Maks, she disappeared to let the two of them cool down. The lifts are effortless and the double split at the end was beautiful, I never knew how flexible Louis was.

The final three couples are up and after a commercial break Chad & Cheryl are safe. Chad gets on his knee to fake propose? Pamela & Damian are in the bottom two. The judges leave their final comments. Bruno loves that Pam is a great character and has star quality; Erin has done quality work overall. Carrie Ann is shocked that Erin is in the bottom two. Len is heartbroken and wished that both could be back next week. Unfortunately the couple with the lowest score is Pamela & Damian. Pam is very gracious throughout the whole elimination.

It's a shame that Pam couldn't have done the samba this week like she mentioned last week because she probably would have gotten through with the high sex appeal the dance would have generated. I'm happy to see what Niecy will try next week to get herself ahead of Chad and Erin. Next week the celebs have an unperformed dance from weeks 1-6 and a dance through the eras. How did you find the elimination? Leave comments below.

I could see how stiff Nichole upper body is when she danced the CHA-CHA, after seeing Chelsie twist and gyrate. There was a huge difference in how the dance looked. I think Chad should go next and there is something between him and Cheryl. The ring, the necklaces, the kisses add up to something more than a grateful student.
