NBC Picks Up Three New Shows

by Andrew Scott, posted May 7th 2010 1:30PM
Becki NewtonNBC has said yes to three more shows for the 2010-2011 season, the Live Feed is reporting.

First up is the high-concept drama 'The Event,' starring Jason Ritter as a man who, in an attempt to find his missing fiance, exposes one of the biggest cover-ups in American history.

Laura Innes ('ER'), Zeljko Ivanek ('Damages'), Sarah Roemer ('Disturbia') and Scott Patterson ('Gilmore Girls') co-star, with 'Dirty Sexy Money's' Blair Underwood set to play the U.S. President.

Also getting the greenlight are two new comedies: 'Outsourced,' about a Midwestern novelty company whose call center is outsourced to India, and 'Love Bites,' from writer-producer Cindy Chupak ('Sex and the City'). Becki Newton ('Ugly Betty') and Jordana Spiro ('My Boys') star in the hour-long comedy, about two single women whose friends have all gotten married.

Today's news is the fourth pickup this week for NBC. As we previously reported, the network gave the OK to 'Undercovers,' a new J.J. Abrams project, about a married couple who return to work for the CIA after years of retirement. Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw star.

Good for you NBC...Your gains are ABC's loss. Abc did the stupidest thing EVER...taking Ugly Betty OFF..Will never watch ABC for any reason again!!!

I totally agree-- ABC should be boycotted for taking Ugly Betty off the air after moving it around to 4 different time slots. No wonder it lost some viewers, but it still had the same ratings as the shows that replaced it--The Middle and Hank. Not to mention that it was the highest quality show on the network. You'd think they would have kept it just to have it as their crown jewel to counter all of ABC's other mindless programming like Eastwick, Hank, and Happytown. These were the shows that ABC chose to give us on Wednesdays instead of Betty?! Way to go ABC--you've really got your finger on the pulse of America. How are ratings for Lost copycat Flashforward doing by the way?

It will be great to see Laura Innes back on TV once again. Hope the show takes off, at least for awhile, as too many shows come and go too quickly! :)

Does this mean that the season coming up this summer will be the last for My Boys?

Sigh... I miss the Programming and Pickups/Cancellations tags... so much easier to see all of that stuff all at once... now its almost impossible to efficiently sort...

I wonder if NBC is going to greenlight other comedies, and expand past Thursday.

Also, I wonder if they are starting to plan for the 2011-12 season, now that it looks like The Office is wrapping up next season, and 30 Rock the year after.
