Denzel Washington told the story of a memorable on-stage mishap involving a doorknob that broke mid-scene during a play, effectively causing the production to grind to a halt because he couldn't hit his mark on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated).

'Twenty-two years ago I was on Broadway. There was a scene, I come in, I'm supposed to walk in the house and have this big argument with my wife. So, I come across the stage in a huff, I go to open the door and I pull the doorknob off," Washington said, adding that the broken doorknob prevented him from entering the home and proceeding with the scene.
