Rock of Ages: Opening Night in Toronto
- Tuesday May 11, 6:30 pm ET, Citytv

Citytv presents a news special at the Toronto opening night of the musical 'Rock of Ages', playing at the Royal Alex. I'm not really sure what to make of this, to be honest. The cynic in me says it's hardly news, that it's Toronto-centric and reeks of brown-nosing. But on the other hand, I do like the idea of bringing a Toronto event to the whole country via the airwaves, and I love that an entertainment show is going to feature stage actors and producers we've probably never heard of instead of the same ten skinny blondes we usually see on the red carpet. And then there's the "face-melting hits" (according to the press release): songs by Asia, Journey, Styx, Pat Benatar and more.

Also This Week:

Mercy - Wednesday May 12, 8 pm ET, Citytv/NBC

In the season finale of this surprisingly decent little medical dramedy, Veronica helps two boys trapped in an abandoned building, Chloe pressures the docs to save her nearly brain-dead boyfriend (women everywhere sympathize) and Sonia treats a psychic patient. Oh, and Briggs tries to pay back his Mafia debt. Oh, James Van Der Beek, you do get into trouble!

30 Rock - Thursday May 13, 9:30 pm ET, Citytv/NBC

I often complain that '30 Rock' overdoes it on the guest stars. With only 22 minutes an episode, it would be nice to get some face time with the regular characters. But then again, if you can get Julianne Moore, Elizabeth Banks, Jon Hamm, Jason Sudeikis, Michael Sheen and Dean Winters to all come on the same episode of your show, why wouldn't you?

Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains - Sunday May 16, 8 pm ET/PT, Global/CBS

The two-hour season finale will whittle it from five to one, but not one of them will be Boston Rob and as such I have hardened my heart against the lot of them. But I hear some people are fans of other players, so I thought I should at least mention the finale in this column. After the final tribal council, the winner is announced and all 20 castaways show up looking freshly scrubbed and/or smug. I wonder if anyone will get engaged this time? Jerri, if for some reason you are considering this, I promise you can do better than Coach. I know some nice guys. Call me.
