'Castle' - 'Overkill' Recap

(S02E23) As much as I adore Nathan Fillion and Rick Castle, I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for him. He's been around Beckett day in and day out, and hasn't made his move. Eventually, she's going to find a hot robbery detective to fool around with. That's just science. Castle can bust out the hurt puppy-dog eyes as much as he wants, but he should take a page from his own book and make a move.
In 'Heat Wave,' the Beckett and Castle characters were doing it by page 125. Castle should apply a little bit of that to his own life and make it happen if seeing Beckett with someone else bothers him so much. Although, seeing Beckett and Demming together bothers me as well -- mainly because Demming looks like a wax statue. I'm always half expecting his face to just start melting off in the interrogation room.
I enjoyed this murder of the week for a couple of reasons. One, the two killers angle, while overly convenient, was a good time. The one thing I still wonder though is if, when Castle and Beckett were questioning each of them, they knew what had happened and that they were actually alibiing each other. It seems to me that if either of them knew exactly what was going on that they would have tried to pin the blame on the other person, making sure that they were in the clear.
This certainly wasn't one of the best mysteries that 'Castle' has ever had -- they obviously shoehorned a lot of it in in order to heighten the rivalry between Castle and Demming -- but the whole shaving cream thing alone makes me forgive the episode for its sins. I don't know why it's so funny to me, but one, I really love the idea that the shaving cream comes out hot, and two, it's funny how even though there was no heat source, it didn't occur to anyone that there's probably a pretty frightening chemical reaction going on there. In any case, here's hoping that no one ends up with permanent capillary damage. They're all too pretty for that.
There also wasn't nearly enough Alexis in this episode, although the scene that she was in, where she was reading her dad's new chapter was great -- mainly because of the whole, "Detective Schlemming" thing. Now that's a brilliant writer at work right there.
