Top 25 'Lost' Guest Stars: Where Are They Now?

by Jo Garfein, posted May 11th 2010 4:03PM
The list of actors who have appeared on 'Lost' over the last six years is so vast and impressive, it was challenging to narrow down the myriad guest stars to just 25 ... so we didn't! There is a bonus category for the six 'Deadwood' alumni who have guest-starred on 'Lost.'

These choices all represent familiar faces and memorable characters with emotional resonance and notable entrances/departures.

Julie BowenJulie Bowen
'Lost' Character:
Sarah Shephard, Jack's ex-wife, who may or may not still be his ex in the Flash Sideways. Jack miraculously "fixed" her after a head-on collision with Shannon's father; perhaps he can do the same for Locke now.
Where She Is Now: Following her series regular role on 'Boston Legal' and a stint on 'Weeds' as Silas' cougar catch, Bowen can now be seen every Wednesday as Claire -- the matriarch of the hilarious Dunphy clan on ABC's hit comedy 'Modern Family.'

Clancy BrownClancy Brown
'Lost' Character:
Kelvin Inman, Desmond's former hatchmate on the island. Before joining the Dharma Initiative, Inman served in the U.S. military with Kate's stepfather, and he coerced Sayid into torturing Iraqi prisoners to extract key information.
Where He Is Now: Brown is a veteran actor and voiceover master; among his many roles, you might recognize him as the voice of Eugene Krabs on 'SpongeBob SquarePants.' He will be appearing in the film 'Cowboys & Aliens,' co-written by Damon Lindelof.

Francois ChauFrancois Chau
'Lost' Character:
Dr. Pierre Chang, Miles' father and everyone's favorite Dharma orientation film host. He was also known as Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr. Edgar Halliwax and Dr. Mark Wickmund, although Hurley infamously labeled him a "douche."
Where He Is Now: Chau was in the film 'The Lodger' and the web series 'Gemini Division.' He recently made an appearance on ABC's weekly video series 'Lost Untangled,' which features Dr. Chang in puppet form.

Michael CudlitzMichael Cudlitz

'Lost' Character:
"Big Mike" Walton, Ana Lucia's former LAPD partner who seemed to have a crush on our angry, deceased friend. Walton interrogated Hurley after he crashed his car fleeing Ghost Charlie, and was responsible for placing Hurley back in the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute.
Where He Is Now: Cudlitz is back on the force in 'Southland,' which was rescued by TNT after NBC failed to pick up the series. His character, John Cooper, is a veteran cop and closeted gay man with a possible pain medication addiction.

Alan DaleAlan Dale
'Lost' Character:
Charles Widmore, Ben's nemesis and father to both Penelope Widmore and Daniel Faraday. Before becoming a wealthy industrialist with a very expensive scotch hobby, Charles was stationed on the island until he was exiled by Benjamin Linus. In addition to preventing his daughter from marrying Desmond Hume, Charles was obsessed with returning to the island and only recently achieved that goal.
Where He Is Now: Dale is well known for his roles as Caleb on 'The O.C.' and Bradford Meade on 'Ugly Betty,' but he was also on 'Entourage' and in 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.' The very busy Dale will appear in five films in the next two years.

Kevin DurandKevin Durand
'Lost' Character:
Martin Keamy, Widmore's mercenary and the show's best Christopher Walken impersonator. Whether taking target practice on the freighter or preparing eggs in the Flash Sideways, Keamy is disarming and creepy. Of course, he is atop the list of Best Island Villains due to the cold-blooded murder of Ben's daughter Alex.
Where He Is Now: Durand plays Little John in Ridley Scott's new 'Robin Hood' film and was the Blob in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine.' He will re-team with Hugh Jackman in 2011's 'Real Steel.'

Nathan FillionNathan Fillion

'Lost' Character:
Kevin Callis, Kate's ex-husband. Felon-on-the-run Kate Austen fell for Miami police officer Kevin and married him under the pseudonym "Monica." Six months later, she drugged and then left him to go on the run again.
Where He is Now: Fillion is the star of ABC's Monday-night series 'Castle' and has also appeared on 'Desperate Housewives.' He is particularly beloved by the Whedon Nation for his roles on 'Buffy,' 'Firefly' and 'Serenity.'

Fionnula FlanaganFionnula Flanagan

'Lost' Character:
Eloise Hawking/Widmore, Faraday's prognosticating mother and Charles' Flash Sideways wife. She was so loved by her son that he named a rat after her. Eloise appears to be an oracle of sorts. Her meeting with Desmond in 'Flashes Before Your Eyes' was our first indication of that time travel would play a major factor in future seasons.
Where She Is Now: Flanagan was a series regular on Showtime's 'Brotherhood' and played Ricky Gervais' mother in 'The Invention of Lying.' But one of her best big screen roles was, appropriately enough, in 'The Others.'

Andrea GabrielAndrea Gabriel

'Lost' Character:
Nadia, Sayid's lifelong love. From a daring rescue in Iraq to a tearful reunion after Oceanic Six rescue and a horrific hit-and-run death, Sayid and Nadia are the doomed version of Desmond and Penny. In the Flash Sideways, Nadia was married to Sayid's brother, and it remains to be seen if Sayid will ever live happily ever after with his Constant.
Where She Is Now: Gabriel started her career in episodes of soap operas like 'All My Children' and 'Another World.' She recently had a guest stint on 'House' and will appear in the pilot of the new TBS series 'In Security.'

Jon GriesJon Gries

'Lost' Character:
Roger Linus, Ben's miserable father and Dharma janitor. Forcing his son Benjamin to grow up on the island while he consumed Dharma beers and blamed him for the death of mother Emily, Roger was never a candidate for Father of the Year. Sayid shot young Ben during a time shift back to the 1970's Dharmaville, and Roger later shot Sayid when he tried to escape. In the Flash Sideways, Ben takes care of his father and they seem to have a far better relationship.
Where He Is Now: A regular on the now-defunct series 'The Pretender,' Gries appeared on 'Supernatural' and 'Cold Case' but will always be known as Uncle Rico from 'Napoleon Dynamite' (not to mention Lazlo in 'Real Genius').

Greg GrunbergGreg Grunberg

'Lost' Character:
Seth Norris, the original and Flash Sideways pilot of Oceanic Flight 815. Although Frank Lapidus was supposed to captain that flight on Sept. 22, 2004, Norris was fated to fly that plane, crash on the island and be the first victim of the Black Smoke Monster.
Where He Is Now: In addition to his real-life role as J.J. Abrams' BFF, Grunberg plays Matt Parkman on 'Heroes' and is the drummer in a charitable jam band full of television stars called Band From TV. Grunberg rose to fame in 'Felicity' and 'Alias,' and recently joined the cast of the new NBC series 'Love Bites.'

Evan HandlerEvan Handler

'Lost' Character:
Dave, Hurley's imaginary friend from the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute. In season 2, Dave appeared on the island to play mind games with Hurley and convince him that everything that has happened is all in his head.
Where He Is Now: Handler, who co-stars in 'Californication' on Showtime, returns to the big screen soon as Charlotte's husband in 'Sex and the City 2.' He is also the author of the book 'It's Only Temporary: The Good News and the Bad News of Being Alive,' an autobiographical look at his successful journey to overcome acute leukemia.

Zeliko IvanekZeljko Ivanek

'Lost' Character:
Dr. Edmund Burke, Juliet's ex-husband. Before being literally thrown under the bus after Juliet's vocal wishful thinking ... and a little help from Richard Alpert and Ethan Rom ... Edmund wanted to share credit for Juliet's medical breakthrough. It is safe to say that Juliet's romantic choices drastically improved after that, from Goodwin to Sawyer.
Where He Is Now: Ivanek is a chameleon actor and and has recently appeared on 'Big Love' and 'Damages.' He is also part of the ensemble cast of the new NBC series 'The Event.'

Swoosie KurtzSwoosie Kurtz

'Lost' Character:
Emily Locke, John's mother. Teenage Emily abandoned John at birth, giving him up for adoption only to find him as an adult in order to scam him for a kidney donation to his long-lost father. In addition to Hurley and Libby, Emily Locke also spent time at the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute, and was treated for schizophrenia.
Where He Is Now: Kurtz was on 'Sisters' for five seasons and played Lily Charles on 'Pushing Daisies.' She recently made a guest appearance on 'Chuck' and was just cast on the new Chuck Lorre show 'Mike and Molly,'

William MapotherWilliam Mapother
'Lost' Character:
Ethan Rom, Claire's kidnapper and the last known baby to be conceived on the island and survive the birth. Parents Horace and Amy Goodspeed were in the Dharma Initiative, but at some point during his later teenage years, Ethan broke away to be with Ben and the Others. He became a surgeon and was tasked with kidnapping Oceanic 815 crash survivor Claire because she was pregnant, but lost his life after her friends refused to let him take her for a second time.
Where He Is Now: Mapother gained acclaim in the independent film 'In the Bedroom' and was recently in episodes of both 'Human Target' and 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent.' He was in 'The Burrowers' with his Dharma dad Doug Hutchison. And yes, Mapother happens to be Tom Cruise's cousin.

Cheech MarinCheech Marin

'Lost' Character:
David Reyes -- Hurley's dad. While he abandoned his son at a young age, he resurfaced after Hurley won the lottery and attempted to reconnect. David helped Hurley and Sayid when they were in danger after being rescued as two of the Oceanic Six.
Where He Is Now: One half of the stoner comedy duo Cheech & Chong, Marin was recently in Robert Rodriguez's 'Grindhouse' along with Jeff Fahey, and will also appear in Rodriguez's film 'Machete.'

Mark PellegrinoMark Pellegrino

'Lost' Character:
Jacob, the island's spiritual leader. Although the epic battle between Jacob and the Man in Black has been toted as good vs. evil, it is still unclear exactly which side Jacob is playing ... even from the great beyond. He was killed by Ben Linus at the behest of the Man in Black (in the form of dead John Locke, his newly acquired body and soul). At various points in the lives of those on Oceanic 815, Jacob visited a select few to make contact and ensure that they follow their destiny. One of them will be the final Candidate, and replace him as the island's true leader.
Where He Is Now: Pellegrino played Rita's ex-husband on 'Dexter' and recently appeared on 'The Mentalist.' In juicy opposition to his current role on 'Lost,' Pellegrino is Lucifer on 'Supernatural.'

Carrie PrestonCarrie Preston

'Lost' Character:
Emily Linus, Ben's mother. Although Emily died in childbirth just outside of Portland, she reappeared in ghost form on the island when her young son Ben attempted to run away from his emotionally abuse father. Dressed similarly to Alice from 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' she was the white rabbit that Ben was chasing (as opposed to Jack, who was chasing his deceased father).
Where She Is Now: Married to the adult version of Ben Linus in real life (Michael Emerson), Preston plays sassy Merlotte's waitress Arlene on 'True Blood' and is also appearing on 'The Good Wife' right now. Look for her in the film 'What's Wrong with Virginia,' from Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

Lance ReddickLance Reddick

'Lost' Character: Matthew Abaddon, Widmore's right-hand man and Jeremy Bentham's chauffeur. Abaddon was the one who put the notion of a walkabout in John Locke's head, setting off the series of events that crash landed Locke on the island. He was responsible for recruiting Charlotte, Faraday, Lapidus and Miles for the freighter mission to the island, and met an unfortunate death while assisting Locke (as Bentham) in his quest to convince the Oceanic Six to return.
Where He Is Now: Reddick played Lt. Cedric Daniels on the critically acclaimed series 'The Wire.' He has since transformed into Agent Broyles on 'Fringe' and will appear in the highly anticipated summer film 'Jonah Hex.'

Katey SagalKatey Sagal

'Lost' Character:
Helen Norwood, the love of John Locke's life. Helen met Locke at an anger management class. They got engaged but she broke it off when he chose his relentless pursuit of a relationship with his estranged father over a healthy one with her. When Locke, as Bentham, attempted to find her a few years later, he was told that she had died. In the Flash Sideways, however, they are still engaged.
Where She Is Now: Sagal, very well known for her role as Peg Bundy on 'Married with Children,' was also on '8 Simple Rules' for three years. She continues to voice Leela on 'Futurama' and star in 'Sons of Anarchy,' which was created and is written and executive-produced by her husband Kurt Sutter.

Fisher StevensFisher Stevens

'Lost' Character:
George Minkowski, the freighter's doomed communications officer. Minkowski's consciousness traveled, and he died shortly thereafter from the side effects and because he didn't have a Constant. He reappeared to chauffeur Desmond around LA in the Flash Sideways.
Where He Is Now: Stevens, perhaps best known for the 'Short Circuit' films, recently won an Oscar as a producer of the documentary 'The Cove.' He also co-directed the 2007 documentary 'Crazy Love' and will be appearing in the upcoming film 'Henry's Crime.'

John TerryJohn Terry

'Lost' Character:
Christian Shephard, father to both Jack and Claire. An alcoholic and gifted surgeon, he passed on both traits to his son Jack, who was responsible for getting him fired and then retrieving his body after he drank himself to death. Although he died in Sydney, Christian's body was missing from his coffin after flight 815 landed on the island, and the Man in Black has allegedly taken on his form to address specific people such as Locke, Jack and Claire.
Where He Is Now: Terry is playing doctor once again, this time on the NBC series 'Trauma.' He was in 'Zodiac,' on '24' for a season, and in episodes of both 'CSI: NY' and 'CSI: Miami.'

Kevin TigheKevin Tighe

'Lost' Character:
Anthony Cooper, Locke's dad and the real Sawyer. Cooper was never a part of Locke's life, and he only appeared later to con his son for a kidney before cruelly dismissing him. When Locke persisted, Cooper threw him out of an eight-story window, leaving his son paralyzed and in a wheelchair. And when Cooper magically appeared on the island, Locke did not have the courage to kill him so Sawyer did his dirty work. As it turns out, Cooper was the real Sawyer who James Ford had been chasing his whole life; he had conned James' parents, leading to their murder-suicide demise. In the Flash Sideways, both father and son are in wheelchairs after amateur pilot John crashed their small plane.
Where He Is Now: Tighe, known for his early work on 'Emergency!,' has appeared on 'Trauma,' 'Lie to Me' and 'Leverage.' He was also in the recent remake of 'My Bloody Valentine.'

Sonya WalgerSonya Walger

'Lost' Character:
Penelope Widmore, Desmond's Constant and daughter to wealthy Daddy Widmore. Despite daddy's best efforts to keep her away from Desmond, Penny did not give up hope when Desmond vanished after taking off on a race around the world (sponsored by Widmore Industries). For three years, she searched for Desmond and finally made contact with the island when Charlie turned off the jammed signal before he drowned. Penny and her crew rescued Desmond and the Oceanic Six, they got married and had baby Charlie. In the Flash Sideways, Penny only just met Desmond.
Where She Is Now: Walger plays Dr. Olivia Benford on ABC's Thursday night thriller series 'FlashForward,' along with fellow 'Lost' alum Dominic Monaghan (Charlie). Previously, Walger was in two HBO shows, 'The Mind of the Married Man' and 'Tell Me You Love Me.' She will appear in the 2011 film 'The Factory.'

Cynthia WatrosCynthia Watros

'Lost' Character: Libby Smith, Hurley's crazy lady love. Although they aren't aware of it, Libby and Hurley were both being treated at Santa Rosa at the same time before crashing on the island. Libby's husband died and she then gave his sailboat to Desmond. On the island, they were an unlikely pair but it was never to be, as Libby was murdered by Michael. In the Flash Sideways, Libby is a voluntary patient at Santa Rosa but Hurley has never been there. She has memories of their time on the island, and when they kiss he remembers as well. Thus, neither is actually crazy.
Where She Is Now: Currently appearing on 'House' as Wilson's ex-wife and rekindled flame, Watros was a series regular on 'Titus' and 'The Drew Carey Show.' She is also in an upcoming film titled 'Calvin Marshall.'

Bonus: 'Deadwood' Alumni

Because six incredible actors from 'Deadwood' have appeared on 'Lost,' they deserve a section all to themselves.

Kim DickensKim Dickens
'Lost' Character: Cassidy Philips, Sawyer's long con and single mother to their daughter Clementine. Sawyer took her life savings and left despite obvious feelings for her and with no idea that she was pregnant. While in prison after she turned him in, Cassidy revealed that they had a daughter. She coincidentally met Kate during a con, and helped her visit her mother. After being rescued and returning from the island, Kate went to see Cassidy to give her money for Clementine (as instructed by Sawyer, who chose to stay behind on the island).
Where She Is Now: Dickens played the no-BS madam Joanie Stubbs on 'Deadwood,' and was Matt's mother on 'Friday Night Lights.' She was in 'The Blind Side' and is now on the new HBO series 'Treme.'

John HawkesJohn Hawkes

'Lost' Character: Lennon, Dogen's Temple translator and sidekick. Although his time on 'Lost' was short, he died a memorable death at the hands of newly infected Sayid and his blade of darkness.
Where He Is Now: Hawkes was Sheriff Bullock's best friend and right-hand man on 'Deadwood,' as well as one of the town's only honest businessmen. He appeared in an episode of 'Psych' and can be seen on the HBO series 'Eastbound & Down.'

Paula MalcolmsonPaula Malcolmson

'Lost' Character: Colleen Pickett, married to fellow hothead Other Danny Pickett. Colleen met her match on Desmond's sailboat when Sun surprised her with a kill shot to the gut. Although it was subtle, Colleen appeared to be jealous of Juliet, or at least of her proximity to their leader Ben.
Where She Is Now: Malcolmson played the foul-mouthed, street-smart prostitute Trixie on 'Deadwood,' and she currently co-stars on 'Caprica.' She is slated to appear in seven episodes in season three of 'Sons of Anarchy.'

William SandersonWilliam Sanderson

'Lost' Character: Oldham, the Dharma torturer. Although he was touted as Dharma's version of Sayid, it turned out that Oldham was nothing more than a hippie in circus tent with psychotropic drugs on the outskirts of Dharmaville.
Where He Is Now: Sanderson was slimy E.B. Barnum, the self-appointed mayor of and hotel proprietor in 'Deadwood.' Known for his role as Larry on 'Newhart,' he currently plays the sheriff on 'True Blood' and appeared on a recent episode of 'Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!'

Robin WeigertRobin Weigert

'Lost' Character: Rachel Carlson, Juliet's sister. After fertility specialist Juliet injected her sister with drugs that enabled her to miraculously conceive after undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, Juliet was lured to the island for a six-month stay to perform similar miracles. Ben Linus blackmailed Juliet into staying by telling her that Rachel's cancer had returned but Jacob would heal her. He then allowed Juliet to see a video of a healthy Rachel with her son Julian, named after her absent sister.
Where She Is Now: Weigert played the incredibly inebriated and loyal Calamity Jane on 'Deadwood,' and was on recent episodes of 'Private Practice' and 'The Mentalist.' She also appeared in the series 'Life' and the film 'Synecdoche, New York.'

Titus WelliverTitus Welliver

'Lost' Character: The Man in Black, Jacob's island nemesis and the infamous Black Smoke Monster. The MiB is allegedly trapped on the island and represents Evil Incarnate. He is able to take on other human forms, and is now stuck in the body of John Locke, attempting to kill off the remaining Candidates to take over Jacob's leadership.
Where He Is Now: A heavily bearded Welliver played Swearengen's smarter henchman Silas on 'Deadwood,' and he is currently appearing on 'The Good Wife.' He will be appearing in the pilot of the new ABC series 'True Blue' along with fellow 'Lost' alum Eric Lange (Radzinsky).

Fantastic article. I especially liked the "DEADWOOD" tie-ins. DEADWOOD was one of my all-time favorite shows, too. I really enjoyed all of the DEADWOOD guest spots. The article was a nice treat and a fitting nod to a great show and guest cast.
