FOX Picks Up Four New Series, Renews 'Lie to Me' and 'Human Target'

by Audrey Fine, posted May 12th 2010 3:45PM
According to the Live Feed, Fox has picked up four new shows for next season -- two dramas and two comedies -- and renewed two others.

Hoping to glom onto the next 'Glee' and add some yuks to its non-animated comedy stable, the network chose 'Traffic Light,' a guys relationship comedy from 'Wedding Crashers' co-writer Bob Fisher, and also picked Greg Garcia's ('My Name is Earl') 'Keep Hope Alive,' about a 25-year-old (newcomer Lucas Neff) who looks to his wacky family -- including his mom, played by Martha Plimpton -- for help with raising his newborn when his baby-momma winds up on death row.

Joining its roster of dramas will be 'Midland' (which may be renamed 'Lone Star'), a soap opera set in Texas oil-country that will star Jon Voight in his first full-time TV gig and be directed by young-helmer-du-jour Marc Webb ('(500) Days of Summer,' new 'Spider-Man' "reboot").

Shawn Ryan's 'Ride Along,' starring Jennifer Beals ('The L Word') as Chicago's first female police chief and 'Brotherhood''s Jason Clarke as the rogue cop she must try to contain, rounds out the order.

Ryan should have plenty of time to devote to 'Ride Along,' having announced earlier this week that he was stepping down as showrunner of 'Lie to Me.' But all hope is not lost for fans of the Tim Roth drama: In a surprise announcement, FOX also revealed today that the show, which had been on the bubble for much of this year, will return for a third season after all.

Also returning to the FOX airwaves next season is another bubble show: 'Human Target,' starring Mark Valley.

Tell us: Are you happy 'Lie to Me' and 'Human Target' were renewed? And which new pilot do you think will have the most success on FOX?

I love Human Target and Lie to me....they take you out of your reality and you know the "good" guy will usually win. In this day of ugliness we need the good to win!

Human Target is a great show, Lie to me is not bad. I am sick and tired of reality shows, I have a life that is real, I hate drama queens and kings, I think people watch them only to feel better about themselves, but it is a sad affair when you need that to make you feel better about yourself. trauma was a good show, but then everything goes in cycles.

I am thrilled that Human Target was renewed!!!! This show has high production values, interesting scripts and great actors. It's not Masterpiece Theater but it is incredibly enjoyable; like watching a new James Bond Movie every week!!

> Fox needs to bring back 'Terminator: The Sara Connors Chronicles'

;)

Yeah that was one of the few shows I bothered to launch when it was on - and the one of the few in a long time I was upset to see canceled.

There should be a rule that if they do a show with along running plot - they should at least give enough warning so the producers can close major plot threads!
