FX Orders 'Wilfred' Pilot

by Chris Harnick, posted May 12th 2010 5:40PM
FXFX, a network primarily known for gripping dramas like 'The Shield' and 'Damages,' has ordered a comedy pilot, 'Wilfred,' for next season.

The live-action pilot is based on the critically acclaimed Australian series starring co-creator Jason Gann. Gann will star in the U.S. update, according to a network press release.

David Zuckerman of 'Family Guy' fame, meanwhile, will serve as writer and executive producer.

"We really loved David's take on Wilfred and believe it's on target with our growing comedy brand," said Nick Grad, executive vice president of original programming at FX Networks. "Following up on the success of 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' with 'The League,' 'Archer' and 'Louie,' we're going to continue to be aggressive in comedy to capitalize on our momentum."

The Australian version of the show featured a woman named Sarah, her dog Wilfred and her boyfriend, Adam. Only Adam saw Sarah's dog (played by Gann) as a human in a dog costume. Wilfred developed a grudge toward Adam and continuously tested the human.

The cast for Wilfred looks pretty solid. FX has been pretty good with their new series recently. I have been addicted to Archer after I first watched the show and I have gotten a few others addicted to the show just by telling them about it. I go to school and work full time though so on the night Wilfred comes out I will be busy. It's a good thing I work for Dish Network because I was able to take advantage of an offer to get a Free Sling Adapter! The promotion is available to anyone but you need to have a ViP722/ViP722k model receiver in order for the Sling to work. If you want more details check out http://goo.gl/Qsggz and follow the instructions. I have the Dish Remote app on my phone and I use my phone to connect to my receiver and I am able to stream live TV as well as recordings straight from the DVR also! It really helps especially since I am not home very often, and I don't fall behind on shows anymore.

Keeping Jason Gann as Wilfred is a great idea! I'll be giving this show a shot.
