'America's Next Top Model' - 'America's Next Top Model Is...' Recap (Season Finale)

Krista and Raina(S14E11) 'America's Next Top Model' is finally down to it's final two and I haven't seen two equal competitors in a while. While each had certain strengths, I think that the exposure of the television show will help both Krista and Raina. I am a bit disappointed that 'Entertainment Weekly' accidentally dropped the names of the final two a week too early, but it seemed obvious that Krista and Raina were destined to be the final two.

I'm really happy that the show has moved to the idea of a double elimination before the final episode because there was a lot to go through if the episode had to eliminate someone at the CoverGirl commercial. Not only did we witness the runway, the girls had the Seventeen shoot and a family portrait.

We get a few photo montages early about the girl's evolution. I've been disappointed of Raina's background story because I've only gotten two words: "gawky" and "volleyball." Krista continues to get the "I've applied every cycle!" and in all reality, if you were passed on for several seasons, maybe you weren't that good. I recall that Joslyn from Cycle 11 had a very similar story, but just couldn't pull off a face-forward shot.

A helicopter sends the girls to Harakia Lodge for their CoverGirl commercial and photoshoot. Miss J arrives to give the girls their scripts. Oddly, she didn't give any advice on how to be bouncy and light for the Anna Sui runway challenge. Thanks Miss Runway Coach. The next morning, while one girl worked on their commercial, the other did the photoshoot. The commercial is for the whole Blast collection. Krista gets the dreaded cue cards, but didn't cry. On the opposite side Raina sounded like a robot. My biggest gripe was that Raina had to squint throughout the whole shoot. Tyra needs to teach girls with sensitive pupils now to close their eyes between shoots. The girls' photoshoot was pretty straightforward, over-the-shoulder shot.

The girls head to the Seventeen shoot photographed by Nigel Barker. Krista is given bangs to make her more accessible to youth, a trend they did in the first CoverGirl shoot, her CoverGirl commercial a few minutes ago and the Anna Sui runway. I almost wonder why they didn't just give her edgy fierce square bang from the get-go. Raina fits perfectly for the Seventeen demographic. Afterwards for no reason other than self-promotion, Tyra pimps her own online magazine by taking photos of Krista and Raina with family members.

The girls go to the Aukland Museum for their final runway and the other eliminated girls from Alasia to Angelea run the show as decoys. The battlegrounds remain the same where Angelea, Alasia, and Alexandra all support Krista and Jessica supported Raina. As the runway began Nicole proves that 5'7 isn't too short and could actually book jobs with a good pair of heels. Krista didn't over-smile and looked really natural. Raina looked less like a line-backer but felt almost too over-compensating for something. I found it amazing that the two girls walked synchronized for the pairs walk since Krista's strides are normally shorter. As for the decoys, Alexandra needed to pull back, but the other three had walks that fit the theme.

Tyra introduces the girls to their final judging in her most obscure jumpsuit. It looks like the blue version of the yellow jumpsuit in the opening credits. Joining the normal judges, Miss J is back. Unlike previous years, the girls photos are not compared side by side, an element I missed. It made the judging more exciting. Both girls showed weakness in their runway, Krista was cheesy and Raina stomped like a horse. The CoverGirl commercial is dull, and the photoshoot is also generic. Krista had no spirit in her eyes.

During deliberation, the girls are further compared. Krista is great with her body, while Raina is amazing at giving face. Raina is fit for European markets, while Krista is international. Krista could do runway shows, while Raina is more of a print model. After all the arguments, Krista is deemed the winner. While Nigel, Miss J, and Tyra hug Krista, Andre gives her air kisses and cries at the judges table. While we don't get a full contestant fadeout, Raina's image fades out for the final time.

There are seasons where Tyra pretends to take a photo with the winner but seriously this year looking at the "I'm proud of you" photo of Tyra and Krista, Tyra obviously photoshopped herself into the shoot. Why couldn't she just do the shoot right after winning like she did with McKey, Teyona, and Nicole? Was she afraid that she was going to look fat? Don't worry Tyra, you already look round.

Both Krista and Raina did a good job and I didn't mind if either won. Raina will find a good contract with her positive attitude and strong portfolio that she built throughout the cycle. Do you agree with the judges? Leave comments below.

I agree with the judges. Krista was the right choice and it will help girls who look like believe in themselves. Girls who look like Krista get it bad. Raina also has odd looks but I love her look as well. Congrats to both and I hope Krista has a good ride.

Boy, I sure do miss that reality-free RSS feed. Then I wouldn't have to see this stuff in the feed.
