'V' Renewed; 'FlashForward,' 'Scrubs,' 'Better Off Ted,' 'Romantically Challenged' Axed

by Andrew Scott, posted May 13th 2010 11:54PM
VMore news coming from the ABC upfronts: The Live Feed is reporting that the network has officially renewed the alien-invasion series 'V' for a second season. The show, which co-stars Scott Wolf and 'Lost''s Elizabeth Mitchell, among others, is expected to be picked up for 13 episodes. (For more on ABC's pick-ups, click here.)

But it wasn't all good news. According to the Ausiello Files, ABC also pulled the plug on four series, including 'Scrubs,' confirming a Facebook message that star Zach Braff posted in March. 'Scrubs' ends after 9 seasons on the air, seven of which were spent on NBC.

Also getting the boot tonight: the Alyssa Milano comedy 'Romantically Challenged,' which got off to a sluggish start after its premiere in April and never really seemed to catch on, despite airing after ratings juggernaut 'Dancing With the Stars.'

(UPDATE: According to Milano's Twitter, ABC hasn't made an official decision on 'Challenged''s fate.)

Meanwhile, ABC closed the books on the freshman drama 'FlashForward,' which last week hit an all-time low in the ratings, attracting just 4.7 million viewers and 1.3 rating among adults 18-49. (To put things into perspective: 'FlashForward' premiered to 12.4 million viewers in September.)

Rounding out tonight's list of cancellations was 'Better Off Ted,' a show that never attracted a large audience, despite solid reviews from critics.

This is one of the saddest times for TV. Goodbye Lost. Goodbye 24. Goodbye Flash Forward. Goodbye Monk, Law and Order, Ghost Whisperer, Dollhouse, Cold Case, Happy Town, Kelsey Grammer, Simon Cowell, & Heroes.

I WANT MY FLASH FORWARD...I WANT MY FLASH FORWARD...
I WANT MY FLASH FORWARD...I WANT MY FLASH FORWARD...
I WANT MY FLASH FORWARD..............(SING IT TO THE TUNE OF I WANT MY MTV) (Possibly, in the future, maybe ABC can put it in an ad saying that due to the demands of the masses and masses of intelligent, persistent television viewers, complaining to their network on a constant basis that we would like to see a QUALITY SHOW LIKE FLASH FORWARD RESURRECTED...They have decided to give FLASH FORWARD A SECOND CHANCE... WITH A CONSISTANT RUNNING SCHEDULE.

I guess I'm one of the insufficient number of watchers of "Better Off Ted." I'll really miss that show.

Yeah-me too! I'm with you guys who are disappointed that Flash Forward is being taken off the air. I mean, WTF?!?? What a great show! The TV execs should have given it a bit more time because the audience is out there, if you just give it a chance to catch on!! Bring it back!!!!

It is sooo sad that Flash Forward got cancelled. I was hoping that they would repeat Season One during to the summer to get all us late boarders online so that we would be ready for Season Two in the Fall. Would have this been a great fix after the end of "Lost." After Lost I the plan was to start watching Flash Forward. I am NOT going to watch V!

Sorry to hear FlashForward was cancelled; thought it was a well written mystery. I guess we will never know how it ends.

I am not surprised that ABC cancelled Flash Forward.
This is predictable. The viewers are the last consideration and are mere gullible guinea pigs for the network experiments. Great shows like Seinfeld, Mash etc would never make it today as these people never allow shows to find their viewer niche. Thank goodness for cable. Viewers don't need the networks.
