The rumors are true. Simon Cowell and 36-year-old girlfriend Mezhgan Hussainy are engaged.

And on Thursday's 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' (weekdays, syndicated), Cowell sat with Winfrey for an extended interview about that relationship, marriage and having kids.

He's never been very good at relationships, Cowell said, though he's on good terms with all his exes. But is he the marrying kind? "I never thought I would be with one person," he said. "And now you think you will?" Winfrey asked him." "Yeah," he said.

"I never genuinely believed that anyone would want to marry me," he added. "Because I'm quite difficult to live with. I am selfish. Quite weird. And I need time on my own to think and then I work all night long."

Later on, Cowell touched on having kids and his moodiness and bouts of depression. It's a sensitive conversation with a man who has polarized TV viewers on both sides of the Atlantic with his no-nonsense and harsh opinions.
