Sean Hayes to Host Tony Awards

Sean HayesWith his must-see TV days now long behind him, Sean Hayes ('Will & Grace') is gearing up to host the 64th Annual Tony Awards, according to the Hollywood Insider.

Hayes, himself a Best Actor in a Musical nominee for his role in 'Promises, Promises,' opposite Broadway fixture Kristin Chenoweth, will take to the fabled stage at Radio City Music Hall on June 13 for the live broadcast, set to air on CBS.

The Tony Awards, whose nominations this year are dominated by 'La Cage aux Folles' and 'Fela!', saw its ratings spike by 19 percent last year when Neil Patrick Harris "saved" the venerable telecast.

This emcee gig will no doubt come as a breath of fresh air for Hayes, who, on the heels of having come out publicly, was disparaged by a story in Newsweek maintaining that gay actors aren't convincing in straight roles. Chenoweth came out swinging in defense of her co-star and the broo-ha-ha surrounding the piece has yet to settle down with many waiting to hear what the writer, Ramin Setoodeh, (whom Chenoweth called a self-hating homophobe) has to say for himself.

Sean Hayes is the perfect choice to host the Tonys! I'm also getting excited for the amazing list of presenters, as one of my favorite actors, Monk's Tony Shalhoub, will be making an appearence! I cant wait!
