'Law & Order' Series Finale (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted May 25th 2010 3:10AM
'Law & Order' Series FinaleFor 20 years now, the series 'Law & Order' (Mon., 10PM ET on NBC) has been on the air, which ties it for the record of longest-running TV drama in history. (The show that it tied with, by the way, is 'Gunsmoke.') But after two decades and about 450 episodes, the show is over.

[Spoiler alert.]

Sam Waterston appears on the series finale to reprise his role as District Attorney Jack McCoy, in a case involving a potential school shooting. Even after all of these years, McCoy still proves himself to be pretty bad-ass. But in a way, the question of whether the villain will be stopped or not seems strangely beside the case. This is the end of one of the oldest shows on TV, and that's a little sad.

'Law & Order' is done. DUN DUN.* (*That's the show's sound effect, in case you were wondering.) And even though the show will be replaced by the new 'Law & Order: Los Angeles,' things won't really be the same without our favorite New York City cops and lawyers.

Feel free to let us know how you feel about the cancellation -- and share your favorite memories of the series -- in the comment section below.

Absolutely loved the show!! Absolutely hate that it's over!! I suppose it will be replaced by yet another one of those inane "reality" shows or senseless attempts at comedy that seem to be taking over television programing. Too bad, soooooo sad.

I'll miss it and I personally thought Law and Order was the best of the Law and Order series, even though I love Special Victims.

I've been a Law & Order fan for as long as I can remember. It's too bad it did not get the proper finale that it so deserved.

The best thing about L&O is that it was story driven, not character driven. Viewers rarely learned about the personal lives of the detectives or attorneys. The point of the show was to tell a story, and I can't think of any other show like that on the air right now.

I'll miss L&O tons, but luckily all the seasons are, or will be, on DVD, so I plan to purchase them and watch them anytime I want. Commercial free!!

Just wish it was given a proper send off instead of being axed the week before without warning. But then I look at it from another viewpoint and decided it wouldn't have been right to have a wrapup type episode. The stories themselves were self contained so beyond having a transition from ADA's and Detectives as in the past, what other way could they have ended it to satisfy the viewers?
Always have reruns anyways, just wish TNT showed some of the real early seasons again at times.

This was one of my favs, from the beginning and now life will be different. I think of all the actors, writer, directors and of course New York.I know several actors who worked on this show and I think of their livelihoods and I am deeply saddened for them, for the City, and for us.

Probably a good episode to end the series on, the core cast is the best they've had in years, and watching Cutter, Connie, Bernard and Lupo interact in their rush to stop a bombing so much was a great goodbye. Ending it on Anita getting the good news about her cancer made my cynical heart smile.

But as stated before, the show really had improved and was so good these last 2 or 3 years. Great writing, great acting, and excellent chemistry between actors. Personal stories like Anita and Cutter's feelings for Connie served to give us more layers making it more than just a crime show. *sigh* I'm going to miss it.

I saw this last night and that was Sam Waterson at his best! I sure am going to miss this show, even with all of the cast changes, it still was a great show. I think it's kinda sad a great show like this is just dropped after 20 years. They should give it another season if nothing else than to let it receive a proper send off.
