ABC Declares 'Ghost Whisperer' Dead

by Scott Harris, posted May 28th 2010 10:20AM
For the last five seasons, Jennifer Love Hewitt's character, Melissa Gordon, on 'Ghost Whisperer' has communicated with the dead in order to help them complete unfinished business. Now it appears that she's finally come across the one corpse that's beyond help -- that of her own show.

Yes, it's sad but true: 'Ghost Whisperer' is officially done for, according to a statement released by the show's producers to the Hollywood Reporter. The series, which was a co-production between CBS Television and ABC Studios, was canceled by CBS earlier this spring, opening the door for partner ABC to swoop in and save the day. Instead, it appears they decided to drive a stake through its heart.
Here's the full statement from executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander:

"After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce 'Ghost Whisperer' will not be returning for a sixth season. We've had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future."

Of course, the trend-du-jour right now is to have a final movie or event to tie up loose ends; recently canceled fan favorites 'Heroes' and 'Law & Order' are reportedly working on specials. So will 'Ghost Whisperer' do the same? We certainly hope so, but so far there hasn't been any word.

Not even one from beyond the grave.

I feel like this show has so much more potential, and its so sad to think no one wants to save it! This was a touching show and I personally have seen every episode. I really hope ABC reconsiders :(

ghost whisperer was an awesome show and i hate to say 'was' a network, sorry not syfy, they suck, a network needs to bring GW back. i do think the show went downhill when last season jumped 5 years into the future. i think GW has a wonderful cast of amazing actors. maybe the dream sequence is a good idea .... just something better. someone needs to bring it back. ratings fell but seriously with all the people petitioning how can they say that. maybe billions didn't watch it but what about the people that did? it's not fair to cancel it just because you felt like it.

We are tired of reality and half witted comedy. Ghost Whisperer took to us to a place we can only dream about. Great cast! Great story line,. The show pulls the veiwer in right from the very first minute of play and you can't stop watching. We all want to visit Grandveiw, just like people used to want to visit Mayberry. Please some network with more taste than CBS ,please grab it. We,as viewers, actually feel like we know the cast. CBS... what are you thinking? Medium just doesn't get it. I'll bet you will find that your Friday night veiwing will drop! It was the best show on television!!!

Please save Ghost Whisperer. Not since Mayberry has there been a town that so many wanted to visit. The show takes us to a place that we can only wonder about and it does it with great story lines and a great cast. She has told us the spirits story ,we have to find out what her's is before the show is just yanked. Scyfy...you need a good show! Pick it up. those at cbs have no taste.

Im really pissed that they ended the show the way they did, they should have finished out the season, and at least let us know what happened with Aiden. As far as the "Jim" storyline, I think they tried to rectify a bad choice when they brought him back in "sams" body and that is why the storyline was dropped. As far as their ratings are concerned, the TV stations are not taking into account how many hundreds of thousands of people DVR and Tivo things these days, if your not tuned into the channel when the show is on, you dont count as a viewer. ugh....
