ABC Declares 'Ghost Whisperer' Dead
For the last five seasons, Jennifer Love Hewitt's character, Melissa Gordon, on 'Ghost Whisperer' has communicated with the dead in order to help them complete unfinished business. Now it appears that she's finally come across the one corpse that's beyond help -- that of her own show.Yes, it's sad but true: 'Ghost Whisperer' is officially done for, according to a statement released by the show's producers to the Hollywood Reporter. The series, which was a co-production between CBS Television and ABC Studios, was canceled by CBS earlier this spring, opening the door for partner ABC to swoop in and save the day. Instead, it appears they decided to drive a stake through its heart.
Here's the full statement from executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander:
"After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce 'Ghost Whisperer' will not be returning for a sixth season. We've had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future."
Of course, the trend-du-jour right now is to have a final movie or event to tie up loose ends; recently canceled fan favorites 'Heroes' and 'Law & Order' are reportedly working on specials. So will 'Ghost Whisperer' do the same? We certainly hope so, but so far there hasn't been any word.
Not even one from beyond the grave.
