ABC Passes on 'New Adventures of Old Christine'

New Adventures of Old ChristineSo much for new adventures: Sources confirm that 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' will not be moving to ABC. The network had been considered a possible new home for the show after it was canceled by CBS on May 18.

According to the Ausiello Files, Warner Bros. TV, which owns the five-year old Julia Louis-Dreyfus vehicle, officially pulled the plug yesterday after talks with ABC broke down. The news follows surprise reports last week that ABC had also declined to rescue 'Ghost Whisperer' after it was canceled by CBS.

ABC had a two-year deal in place to acquire both shows if CBS passed on them, and while it had been thought more likely that it would pick up 'Ghost Whisperer,' as it was an ABC Studios-CBS TV Studios co-production, executives at the network had expressed interest in picking up 'Old Christine' over the last few seasons.

'The New Adventures of Old Christine'
ran for 5 seasons and starred Julia Louis-Dreyfus ('Seinfeld') as Christine Campbell, a recently divorced single mother whose ex-husband (Clark Gregg) has a new girlfriend (Emily Rutherfurd) also named Christine. "Old" Christine lives with her brother (Hamish Linklater) and runs a gym with her best friend Barb (Wanda Sykes). It initially had strong ratings and reviews but had lost viewers and was canceled shortly after coming back from a long hiatus.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus won an Emmy Award for the role in 2006 and the show was seen as having broken the "'Seinfeld' curse," which dogged the post-'Seinfeld' careers of her co-stars. Star vehicles for Michael Richards ('The Michael Richards Show'), Jason Alexander ('Bob Patterson' and 'Listen Up!') and Louis-Dreyfus herself ('Watching Ellie') were all canceled after just 1 season.

'Ghost Whisperer' starred Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon, a woman who could communicate with the dead and help them to pass over to "The Light." it also ran for 5 seasons and over one hundred episodes. Like 'The New Adventures of Old Christine,' its once-strong ratings had declined over the last couple of seasons.

The New Adventures Of Old Christine is a hit on Lifetime, Twitter, and Facebook. The daily Old Christine quotes are so funny that they are being retweeted. It is CBS and ABC's loss. The public still wants that show!

Thank God Old Christine is being cancelled. The show had gotten to the point of it's demise as many shows do when they start promoting political and race agendas, and the reverse-racism stuff that black people are cool and intelligent and that white people are dumb and stupid, people tire of that. As for ghost whisperers, that show was awesome and that is what I would call real acting and writing vs. Old Christine, had some depth to it. Old Christine was written for someone with the emotional development and maturity of her son Ritchie.

I want to see Ghost Whisperer reinstated. It's a wonderful show and wonderful characters. Why do you cancel all the good shows? Is is all about "money"? Come on, please, please, please bring back Ghost Whisperer. Mr. Moonves, you can help! Thank you. Respectfully.

Forget it! Bring back "Still Standing" with the lovely and leggy Jami Gertz, the sexiest real woman in recent television history, and the hilarious Mark Addy!!!

Not everybody likes a lesbo lovestory especially with the ever annoying Wanda Dykes. I always thought she was the weak link on Seinfeld anyway.

While Ghost Whisperers ratings have declined it still pulled in about ten and a half million viewers on Friday evenings which is pretty good considering next to no one watches tv on Friday. Good luck with your replacement and don't cry when no one wathes your new show.

Did anyone else think that Christine (Dreyfus) was getting dumber and dumber on the show? It was annoying because I don't think she started out that way on the show. I think they started to make her stupidly goofy and not funny. The whole New Christine split and baby and the brother becoming a doctor in like a week were really weird too. Should have kept the characters real.
