Amy Ryan to Play Gabriel Byrne's Shrink on 'In Treatment'

by Audrey Fine, posted Jun 3rd 2010 3:20PM
Amy Ryan, best known to TV audiences as Holly on 'The Office' and to moviegoers for her Oscar nominated performance in 'Gone Baby Gone,' is set to shrink some heads on the upcoming third season of HBO's critical darling, 'In Treatment.'

According to Deadline, Ryan will step in as Dr. Paul Weston's (series star Gabriel Byrne) psychotherapist now that Dianne Wiest, who won the 2008 Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy for her role of GIna, has moved on.

Another Oscar nominee, Debra Winger ('An Officer and a Gentleman,' 'Terms of Endearment,' 'Shadowlands'), has also recently joined the cast in a role that we're hoping isn't a case of art imitating life. Winger, who hasn't been a series regular since playing Wonder Girl to Lynda Carter's titular 'Wonder Woman' in 1976, will play a once A-list actress who's crippled with anxiety about the current state of her career.

'Slumdog Millionaire' star, Irfan Khan, will also clock some time on Dr. Weston's couch (although the nature of his role is being kept under wraps) when the highly anticipated third season debuts on the cable network later this year.

This is FANTASTIC news. I haven't seen the second season yet cause I don't have HBO but I plan on plowing through it as soon as it comes out on DVD. I love Amy Ryan and I am glad she's getting good work!
