Let's get real with Dr Phil.

Thursday's 'Dr Phil' show (weekdays, syndicated) was devoted to giving viewers an all-access behind-the-scenes pass to see just how the show is put together.

The show kicks off with Dr. Phil leaving his home and -- in a nice down-to-earth touch -- driving himself to the studio. But work can't wait -- Dr. Phil uses his hands-free mobile phone to call executive producer Carla Pennington, who's also driving herself to the studio, to discuss one of the show's topics.

It's apparent -- what with the video clips inserted while the two are talking -- that it's all so rehearsed, however. What we need is a behind-the-scenes of the behind-the-scenes. Still, it's fascinating to see what goes into a TV show.
