Selena and the 'Wizards' Sign Up for New Season on Disney

Tween star Selena Gomez and the rest of her fellow 'Wizards of Waverly Place' will continue to enchant Disney Channel viewers for another season, according to a report from Deadline Hollywood.

The show will return for a fourth season, as well as a sequel to the 'Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.' The 'Wizards' movie drew 11.4 million viewers, which made it the channel's second most-watched scripted broadcast when it aired last August.

Vince Cheung and Ben Montanio of 'Married ... with Children' fame will take over production of the series from Peter Murrieta, who moved on in April, according to the report. 'Wizards' creator Todd J. Greenwald will executive produce, along with Cheung and Montani. Dan Berendsen, who wrote the first 'Wizards' movie and Disney's 'Hannah Montana: The Movie' and the upcoming Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato vehicle 'Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,' is set to write the 'Wizards' movie sequel.

'Wizards' follows the magical travails of the Russo kids (Gomez, David Henrie and Jake T.Austin) who live on Waverly Place in New York's Greenwich Village. Their father, played by David DeLuise (a son of late comedian Dom DeLuise) is a former wizard but mom (Maria Canals Barrera) is not.

The show garnered an Emmy in 2009 for Outstanding Children's Program.

The 17-year old Gomez has parlayed her popularity on 'Wizards' into several outside projects, including a singing career and a fashion line.

Let me start by saying I'm a single 24 year old male. That said, this is a very cute and funny show. Elements for young and old. Deserves the next season and if it keeps up some of the dramatic/intense episodes mixed with all the humor it had this season (the relationships the older siblings had), I look forward to the next season and movie. I will add that they need to find out before the next season or movie is completed if it will be a series finale so they can wrap up the wizard tournament and who gets powers (if not all of them) in the end.
