Melissa Rycroft to Co-Host 'Bachelor' Spin Off

by Audrey Fine, posted Jun 8th 2010 10:20AM
Melissa Rycroft's parents must've taught her that old "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" adage, because she's pretty good at doing it.

Even if you don't watch 'The Bachelor,' you'll recall that the former Dallas Cowboy cheerleader was proposed to and then unceremoniously dumped by Jason Mesnick in back-to-back episodes of the 13th installment. And, while suffering a humiliating public blow would be enough to send most women running as far from the spotlight as possible, the resilient Rycroft dusted off her ego and replaced an ailing Nancy O'Dell on 'Dancing with the Stars' (she and partner Tony Dovolani finished third) and even sidled up to Ryan Seacrest as a co-host of last year's 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve,'
Now, the 27 year-old will return to her 'Bachelor' roots as co-host, alongside Chris Harrison (who just hosted the Scripps Spelling Bee), of the new reality show 'Bachelor Pad.'

The new show, which debuts Aug. 9, 8PM on ABC, features contestants and suitors from past seasons of both 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette,' as they hole up in a mansion and compete for another chance at love. Oh, and $250,000.

Rycroft, who married long time beau, Tye Strickland last December, was named one of People magazine's Most Beautiful People in 2009.h

Surprised that wholesome Melissa Rycroft would take on a sleeze tv project as ABC comes out with it's version of Big Brother by sequestering a group of Bachelors and Bachelorettes together in a house. Nothing like a little champagne-fueled co-habitation to make for good prime time programming! Oh but wait there's more! Throw in shirtless hunks and bikini clad chicas competing for "hot dates" and cavorting for the night vision cameras after hours, NOW we've got compelling prime time programming! Just one question for the contestants. A number of you (like Gia and Wes) publicly claim to have boyfriends and girlfriends. How do your significant others feel about the co-habitating, hot tub passions, and hot dates? Hope some creative tabloid show interviews them! Or are you all planning for hot hook-ups in the house to replace your current relationships?

Think ABC got it wrong. Melissa should be the co-host of DWTS - her chemistry with Tom Bergeron is very entertaining. And Brooke Burke should be the co-host of the hot tub bikini crowd on Bachelor Pad. Very similar to her old "Wild On" show. Bachelor Pad seems to be another purient, fake edit, story job by Mike Fleiss. So many of the contestants claim to have boyfriends or girlfriends at home and they are competing for dates during the Bachelor Pad? Wonder how that sits with the significant others back home? Like Gia Allemand just said a week ago she has a boyfriend. Wonder how he's gonna feel seeing his bikini clad gf sleezing around at the Bachelor Pad? And surprised Melissa would go back to the show that threw her to the dogs the first time. Guess she has to pay for that new house somehow.

I agree with the comments above - she's had more than her 15 minutes of fame! I can't stand to see her on Good Morning America or anything else. There is not an attractive thing about her.

I am sick of Melissa Rycroft! The bachelor was right to dump her...she was just a spoiled brat, who sounded stupid everytime she spoke! I agree with all of the negative comments above, including the one about her teeth!!!!! We're had enough of her...move on!!

Good for Melissa!! She was my favorite contestant to ever be on a Bachelor show. She will do GREAT co-hosting with Chris and can't wait to see the new show.

Melissa is an absolute doll. Nothing pretentious or fake about her at all. She may not be beautiful but she's cute as can be with a personality to match. Good for her doing so well!

I get so sick and tired of people continually writing that she was dumped on national television. She was NOT dumped on that show! They were already broken up by then and had been for MONTHS! Since the January after the final rose ceremony when Jason picked her instead of Molly. What Melissa did on that show, calling Jason a name and stomping off was all a big act to get sympathy...misplaced sympathy, because she was FAKING her reactions. By then it was really none of her business WHAT Jason felt about Molly, although he seemed to see a need to tell her he had feelings for Molly. She was not on that show to find a husband...she even admitted on Ellen that she was seeing her now husband who is an idiot for marrying her because she was seeing him when she did that big ol' poor little dumped me act...she was on Elling gushing about her now husband and she said on there that she and Jason had broken up the previous January...long before that show with her and Chris and Jason aired. So, all of you who think she is great..she is a fake who lies about Jason every time she can get a dig in or get someone else to put a dig in at him and Molly. I was going to watch The Bachelor Pad...now I think I will pass. Melissa is a phony, and she has played that phoniness up to get where she wanted in the first place.

I agree with one thing you say. SHE WAS NOT DUMPED ON THE SHOW. It was all scripted. The acting was so terrible no one at all could ever possibly believe that that happened.

I totally agree, when will she go away? I also think she wasn't looking for true love because she became engaged with a so called ex-boyfriend within months of the bachelor rejecting her. You know that if this wouldn't have happened, she would have been the next Bachelorette. That would have been a crime
