'Work of Art' Preview: Beyond Paint by the Numbers

by Jane Murphy, posted Jun 9th 2010 9:00AM
More than two years after Sarah Jessica Parker's fierce appearance on a 'Project Runway' episode (eventual winner Christian Siriano was nearly eliminated!), SJP returns to Bravo with 'Work of Art: The Next Great Artist'.

Through the summer, fourteen visual artists paint and pant through challenges, the winner earning a solo exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. 'Sex and the City's' Parker is an executive producer on 'Art'.

Inspiration is everywhere. The setting for 'Work of Art' is New York, of course. Your host is actress China Chow, daughter of the legendary designer and muse Tina Chow. Playing the role of Tim Gunn will be the elegant and multilingual (French, German, Italian and English) auctioneer Simon de Pury.

In order to get cast on 'Work of Art', skill is required. (So is a pulse -- not so fast, Vermeer!) The lucky participants include Abdi, a 23-year old Ivy Leaguer, and silver fox Judith, who entered art school two decades before Abdi was born.

In the clip below, the artists work into the night on a portraiture assignment. Well, most of them are working. A technical glitch sends printmaker Miles into a tizzy. "I'm screwed," Miles groans (on the bright side, he's kinda hot).

'Work of Art' preview

When we last saw Sarah Jessica, she was wearing head sculpture to the 'SATC' premiere in London (seen above), but the designer was milliner-to-the-stars Philip Treacy and not one of 'Work of Art's regulars.

You can appraise 'Work of Art' when it premieres tonight on Bravo at 11PM/ET.
