Carson Kressley and Cat Cora to Star in OWN Shows
It's a busy time for Oprah Winfrey's new cable network as OWN announces several executive staffing changes and that Carson Kressley and Cat Cora are developing new shows with the network.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, John MacDonald, formerly of MTV Networks, has been appointed COO/Executive VP Programming and Digital. He will report to CEO Christina Norman, who said that he "will be instrumental as we prepare for OWN's launch and the future of the network."
Fashion maven Kressley ('True Beauty') and celebrity chef Cora ('Iron Chef America') will be starring in lifestyle transformation or makeover shows for the fledgling network, which will "be devoted to self-discovery, to connecting you to your best self and to the world."
Kressley has extensive experience working on makeover shows. He was the fashion expert on Bravo's 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' for several seasons, and has since hosted shows such as 'How to Look Good Naked' and 'True Beauty'. He is also a regular style commentator with appearances on shows like 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' and 'Live with Regis & Kelly.'
Professional chef Cora started off in TV hosting Food Network shows like 'Melting Pot' and 'Kitchen Accomplished,' and since 2005, she's starred as one of the Iron Chefs in 'Iron Chef America.' Her new show for OWN will reportedly revolve around Cora offering healthy living and nutritional advice to families in need of major lifestyle changes.
In addition to the Kressley and Cora shows, OWN has commissioned the pilot of a mediation show, 'Confrontation: The Conversation', from executive producer Tom Forman ('Breakthrough With Tony Robbins'). The network has also appointed new senior VPs in programming and development, and digital and social media areas.
OWN is a joint venture between Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Networks. Due to launch January 1, 2011, it will replace the current Discovery Health Channel and will concentrate on issues related to health, relationships and personal development and fulfillment.
