'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' - 'Accentuate the Positive' Recap

The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Accentuate the Positive(S03E02) "Remember, I've been through this before ... with someone else who didn't have the flu." - Ashley to Adrian

That Ashley is one sad puppy, isn't she? I don't know if she's just being 15 or if she's clinically depressed, but she's definitely got some issues. Everyone around her -- well, if you count Amy, Adrian and Anne as everyone -- is getting pregnant, and yet, I'm still not sure she gets that it's a bad idea. Yes, she pressured her dad to let her get birth control pills, but that means she's thinking about having sex and, well, mistakes happen.

At any rate, wouldn't it be something if both Amy and Ashley got pregnant by the same guy?! It could happen! Ricky's sort of stuck on her at the moment.

It always bugs me when girls don't pursue an opportunity because of a guy. I get it, but it bugs me. And it bugged me when Ricky told Amy that maybe she shouldn't go to New York, because he'd just gotten her and Ben back together and the timing wouldn't be right to take off for four weeks.

OK, let's recap. It's four weeks. It's an opportunity that could change Amy's life for the better. John could stay with Ricky, and she'd be back before they know it. Besides that, Ben was excited for her. Amy: Listen to me. Go to New York! I have a feeling she's at least considering it, but things are going to get very interesting once she finds out that Adrian is pregnant. It sure seems like the gods are trying to put the kibosh on her and Ben. They just can't catch a break.

That "family dinner" with Ben and the Juergens was comical, even if I did want to slap some sense into them. Is it THAT hard to tell each other the truth? I can certainly see why Anne is hesitant to marry George again. I was kind of rooting for him last season, but this one, not so much. He's a dolt. On the other hand, at least he got after Ashley for not going to school, which is more than Anne can say. Maybe Anne and George both need to grow up a little.

Probably the most adult scene was when Grace told Ben that she was disappointed he was back with Amy, but that she understood. And I bet anything that Jack ends up moving in with her family, and they end up getting back together. But then ... the Adrian factor is just mucking everything up, isn't it? I'm sure Ben will turn to Grace for comfort once the pregnancy is out in the open.

Oh, and I was also ticked at Ben for getting mad at Ricky for telling him the truth about Adrian: "Ben, Adrian is pregnant ... and if she told you she isn't, she lied." And come on, even if Ricky hadn't told him, all the signs are there. Ben's just in denial.

What did you guys think about this episode? Do you think Amy will go to New York? Will she and Ben split up when she learns about Adrian's pregnancy?

I love how they try to work in Henry & Alice every so often. Today they provide the information on how home pregnancy tests work, LoL. Grace falling for Ben never really made sense for me, so I'm glad that's on the back-burner for now. I also thought it was funny that Jack went to Ricky next... with the premise of "it's only for a year," um, that's a LONG time. I don't know how I feel about the guidance counselor applying to the program without Amy knowing, but I totally think she's gonna go. As for mature moments, Jack had some great advice to tell Grace about Adrian's situation and what they should do.
