'Mike and Mike' Weigh in on Plan to Lure LeBron James to New York (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Jun 16th 2010 1:00PM
Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg debate whether stars like Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan and Donald Trump can help convince free-agent superstar LeBron James to join the New York Knicks on 'Mike and Mike in the Morning' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ESPN.)

The Mikes are critical of the celebrity "dream team" which has been assembled to lure James to New York by convincing him of everything the city has to offer.

"You know what? I think this is great, because I think prior to this, LeBron James did not realize that New York was a large and thriving metropolis where he would have a lot of opportunities including Broadway and fine restaurants," Greenberg said sarcastically. "If any of this influences LeBron James at all, then he's a lot less smart than I thought he was."

Let lebron stay in Cleveland where he belongs. It's only time when he will be outed as a steroid user. Look at his freakish size. no way is he in the gym that much so he would end up looking that way. He'll end up being the poster child for steroids in Baskeball and poof, there goes his so called legacy. NY doesn't need another user or someone who's going to put himself first over his team. That's what he's all about. He had a nice team around him in Cleveland and did absolutely nothing. he may be 6'9, but when the playoffs come he becomes 5' 9, and still can't measure up. Oh and by the way, he aint no Michael or Koby by any stretch of the imagination. These guys were and are players.

LeBron James may not be smart enough to throw away millions on repaying my posts, but really, imagine the Mayor introducing the Knick 7 footers: LeBron, I know you probably never see them on court, but these guys are Jon Bender and Ed Curry. Which is why Lee, Harrington, and Gallinari play center. And James would say, Yes sir, I know, that`s why I`m signing with the Clippers. Lots of folks think Sterling is a joke, but the cash is real and Kaman is the center. He`s not a joke. He`s okay. If the Knicks fans want James, the celebrity that probably have to show off is Andrew Bogut, if they can pry him away from the Bucks. He is the only all star center in the north. And without a center taller/heavier than James, he won`t consider any other hype.

Giles, I must be wearing down on this. I no longer feel the NY Knicks deserve Lebron or any other free agent. The org. is just too inept, from Dolan on down, just plain stupid! Dolan hires Walsh (who hired Isaiah to coach in Indy!)so Walsh's credibility = 0. Evidence: Walsh hires D'Antoni, whose idea of good defense is "shoot quicker". That crap worked in Phoenix but only in the reg. season. The playoffs are a different story. Dolan's remarks indicate he would like to have some 5'8" balding white guys shooting 2 hand set shots on the team. So, basically, long time Knick fans are pretty much screwed. As for Lebron, he very well could have a Dominique Wilkins-like career. Human highlight film, but no cigar, ego out of control.

I say LeBron should go to NY idf they get Tony Parker and a good big man. In the long run that would be great for his future even though Chicago is also a major media center. Look at Players in San Antonio, Utah and other small markets. This is a short career. You have to plan for the future. NY is number one and LA is number two as Reggie Jackson said. Then he went to the Orioles and he was angry so he was traded to the Angels. Tony Parker has showbiz in his future. Tony, Lebrom ... make the smart move to NY but find a good big man to rebound. By the way Lebron is good but he can't dribble. Did you see how many he lost this year?
