What Is 'TV's Greatest Surprise'? (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 16th 2010 11:55PM
What Is 'TV's Greatest Surprise'?We've had a lot of shocking moments in the history of television. There was the time that man first walked on the moon. That was pretty amazing for all concerned. ... Or there was the time that the sitcom 'Joey' was canceled. No one saw that coming; who would have thought a Matt LeBlanc-based sitcom could fail? Okay, it wasn't really shocking at all; we just wanted to make fun of 'Joey.' We admit it.

But what is the most surprising moment ever? That's the question on 'TV's Greatest Surprises: A Paley Center for Media Special' (Wed., 8PM ET on CBS). And your winner is ...

[Spoiler alert.]

... Oprah! Based on a poll of TV viewers, Oprah is the one. Viewers selected the moment when 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' gave away cars to every single member of the audience. That's 276 cars, valued at over $7 million. Yes, you get a car, and you get a car; everybody gets a car! If you were in the audience that day, that is.

It is a fairly impressive TV moment. Though it's always odd when people start crying and screaming immediately upon getting a prize. Cars are cool and expensive, true, but are they tear-worthy?

Anyway, that's the winner for most surprising television event, brought to you by Oprah Winfrey. Do you think that you have a better pick for the best moment ever? Feel free to leave your choice in the comment section.

No offensive but why even try with the little spoiler alert thing when the videos here auto play now.

I clicked the article to find out, so I wasn't worried about a spoiler, I just think that the auto playing videos is the worst part of the New TV Squad and that is why I visit the site a lot less then I used to.

The Death of Henry Blake on M*A*S*H and the final episode of Newhart are certainly as worthy as Oprah!
