A Republican Defends BP -- and Gets Yelled at on 'The Daily Show' (VIDEO)

A Repubican Defends BP -- and Gets Yelled at on 'The Daily Show'We're at Day 59 of the BP oil spill. It is truly a national nightmare. But it does give Jon Stewart plenty of new material. And it provides us with a few more satirical news bites on 'The Daily Show' (weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). So, that's not great -- but it's something, at least.

President Obama requested that BP put money into a fund that would assist the victims of the oil spill. Surprisingly, the company actually went ahead and did this. But no good deed goes unpunished -- and so, for some odd reason, Republican Congressman Joe Barton decided to attack this move.

Barton defended British Petroleum -- the company responsible for the oil spill which has devastated the Gulf Coast. Joe Barton said that making this fund for the oil victims was a "tragedy." The congressman then accused Obama of trying to create a "slush fund" with the money.

This was the point where Jon Stewart's anger kicked in. The 'Daily Show' host was fairly unrelenting in his attack. "I don't like you!" he yelled in reply to Barton.

Stewart pointed out that a huge corporation having to pay out some money was not a "tragedy." We'd have to agree there. It's hard to feel bad for BP after they caused a natural disaster. But don't worry. Senator Barton has already sort of half-heartedly apologized for his remarks. For what that's worth.

Obama takes every chance he gets to create a fund for whatever he wants, and it most likely will turn into a slush fund. Wanna bet that unions and other Obama supporters will get more money than those living in the gulf area who are truly hurt will? Also, BP caused a "natural" disaster? Don't think so. Most likely it was human error, but certainly not a natural event. BP's largest political contribution was to Obama. Finally, government safety inspectors who were watching porn instead of inspecting the safety platforms and environmental wackos responsible for unnecessary regulations should surely share some of the blame. Where's the outrage on that count?

Some moron Republican "defends" BP and the media goes crazy. Obama's 2008 campaign received a lot of funding from BP and...not a peep.

When is BP going to realize both sides are bought and sold by the same international corporations? When are leftists going to too?

....or call it BP, the British based company.

It's spliting hairs. There's also KFC, which we know as Kentucy Fried Chicken. Whether you call the company by its former full name or initials (which alludes back to the name), doesn't make a huge difference. Same company. And we all know what company we're taking about.

FYI the company has not been called British Petroleum for over ten years. Please refer to it as BP from now on.
